Cecilia De La Garza age 87 of Kennewick, Washington went to be with her beloved savior, Jesus Christ, on the morning of March 16, 2022.
Cecilia was born and raised in Marfa, a small town in west Texas, and moved to Oregon in 1979. She worked for several years at Simplot and retired in 1996. Cecilia then moved to the Tri-Cities, Washington and became heavily involved in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Pasco as a member of the prayer group Las Guadalupana’s. She was a madrina (godmother) to many marriages, quinceañeras, baptisms, and first communions.
She was known for her good sense of humor and contagious laughter and had a love for music and dancing. Cecilia loved to crochet and was an avid seamstress. She created works of art, sewing wedding dresses and outfits for numerous special events over the course of her lifetime. She loved spending time with her family and was active in her church community. Through the years she served as a mentor and a mother-figure, taking on the role of mom to those who needed one. She openly shared her heart with so many people.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her loving mother, Josefina Herrera, her brother Arturo Montanez, and her eldest daughter Maria Gomez.
Cecilia is survived by her younger brother Ramon Benavides and her eight children: Hayme Serrato, Cecilia Walker (Dennis), Olga Ferguson (Glenn), Ralph Serrato (Lynn), Lisa Robinson (Philip), Janie Perez, Teresa Padilla, and Blanca Padilla.
