Robert S. Gowen, 69, of Kennewick, WA, went to meet his Heavenly Father on July 29, 2009. Robert was born on August 19, 1939 in Corsica, South Dakota.

Robert attended elementary school in South Dakota, where he also did cow herding for a local farmer. He then attended his high school years in Caldwell Idaho at Gem State Academy. He was a first string forward basketball player for Gem State Academy.

Robert joined the Army out of high school and served 10 years. While in the service he was recognized for his marksmanship shooting. During his years in the service he was stationed in Wuerzburg, Germany where he met his wife, Erika, and started their family. The family spent many years traveling the United States and ultimately settled in Kennewick, WA., where he was employed by Boeing Computer Services as a project manager.

Robert enjoyed time with his children by managing his son's little league team, The Pirates, watching his daughter compete in beauty pageants and baton twirling. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and customizing cars.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Evelyn and Walter Gowen.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Einan's Funeral Home. Family and friends are also invited to a memorial service on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Einan's Memories at Sunset Event Center.

  • For the Family of Robert S. Gowen

From the Kennewick Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution

There are no words to express the sorrow of losing a loved one. It is a pain that only time will heal. While we did not know Robert personally, as DAR members, we honor his commitment to our country and his service in its defense. The DAR strongly supports our nations’s military, and we recognize the personal sacrifice that each member gives, as well as their families.

To that end, we offer you our heartfelt condolences, and prayers of comfort. We thank you for Robert’s service, and his sacrifice to our country.

May God bless you and comfort you as you remember just how very special Robert was to his family, and his country.
