Julianne Barr
Julianne Barr, age 77, peacefully passed in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 11. Julie was born in Camas, WA. She attended Clark College before getting married, moving to Richland, and becoming a mother. Julie began working as a file clerk at the Richland Clinic in 1970, and worked her way up to a receptionist position. Through her hard work and determination, she was offered a job at Exxon Nuclear. Julie quickly advanced to a job in the QC lab and over time became a chemist; she remained in that position until her retirement in 2000.
Julie was an avid reader and, among many hobbies, enjoyed making stained glass. Julie and a coworker formed a jewelry business they named Jolie Classique; many of her friends, family, and coworkers benefitted from this endeavor.
Julie will always be remembered as a loving coworker with unlimited generosity and drive. She was always quick to help anyone in need. Above all else, Julie loved her family dearly. Julie leaves behind her husband of 40 years, Dennis; four children and their spouses: son Mike Atlee, daughter Brenda Thornton (Glenn), daughter Wendy Henderson (Lee), and daughter Jill Barr (Rachel); seven grandchildren and their spouses: Caitlin Kalahar (Curtis), Tim Thornton, Kelsey Henderson (Sarah), Avery Henderson, Riley Henderson, Sawyer Henderson, and Jacob Strohman-Barr; and one great-grandson: Gavin Kalahar. Julie is also survived by her mother, Mary North; a sister, Phyllis Parker (Bill); a brother, Omer North (Beth); and many nieces and nephews.
Julie will be missed and remembered by those who knew her; she enriched many lives with her generosity and quick wit. Donations to Hospice of the Tri Cities in her memory are encouraged and greatly appreciated. A celebration of Julie’s life will be scheduled at a later time.
I met Julie when I started working at the Richland Clinic in high school. She was a wonderful mentor and a good friend. As time moved on and I moved on, Julie met another wonderful friend of mine from a former work place (Boeing Computer Services) and she and Dennis were married. I remained in touch with both of them off and on over the years and am glad two special people came together and shared their later years. I know Julie is remembered fondly by many- myself included! My sincere condolences to Dennis and the family. May you find peace sharing the many memories and keeping Julie in your heart.
