In Loving Memory

Eileen (Coyle) Ward, 93, of Richland, passed away at home with her family at her bedside on April 23, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer.  Eileen was born March 4, 1923 at the Coyle Family homestead and dairy ranch in Walla Walla, Washington.  She met her husband, Charles Ward, at a USO dance at the Army Air Field in Walla Walla, where he was in training with the Army Air Corps.  They were both excellent dancers and could jitterbug with the best.  They were married December 1, 1943, when he returned from overseas duty.  She traveled with him to his pilot training assignments in the South.  After the war ended, they settled in Richland where they raised their three daughters.

Eileen was primarily a homemaker but she worked part-time for many years as a secretary for Northwest United Protestant Church.  She had a beautiful soprano voice and she enjoyed singing with the church choir.  Music was always a joy to her and became a major part of her life.  Over the years, she performed many solos for weddings and other events.  She was also very creative---sewing, knitting and crocheting gifts for her family and friends.

After moving to the Meadow Springs area in the mid-1970's, Eileen learned to play golf and became quite proficient, playing in many tournaments.  She even hit a hole-in-one; two times.  Chuck and Eileen loved to travel in their motor home and they made good use of their Thousand Trails membership.  For many years they spent the winter months traveling between RV Parks in Southern California.  They were happily married for 65 years before Chuck died.

Eileen is survived by her three daughters, Sherri Johnson (Kurt Johnson), Susan Gonzales and Sandi Donahue; her four grandchildren, Joni Gonzales (Jeff Perkins), Matt Johnson (Angela Johnson), Seth Johnson (Amanda Volgardsen), and Sara Lapeyre; great grandchildren Michaela Gonzales, Tyler Lapeyre, Sascha Johnson, Liam Joseph Gonzales Perkins, and Emmett Johnson.  Eileen was predeceased by her parents Charles and Lela Coyle, her two sisters, Inez Mutton and Maxine McAdams, her brother Bruce Coyle and her son-in-law Joe Gonzales.

Eileen was a much treasured mother and she will be deeply missed.  A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 1st at 1:00 pm at Einan’s Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland.  The family invites you to express your thoughts and memories in their online guestbook at www.einansfuneralhome.com.  If you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, you might consider the American Cancer Society or the National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
