Kaye Marie Boak

Kaye Marie Boak was born on October 10, 1919 to Francis Lafate and Denoria Altha Freeman. Kaye passed away due to natural causes on April 6, 2016 at the Richland Rehabilitation Center at the age of 96 with her loving husband and son at her side.

Eunice Marie Freeman, later changed to Kaye Marie, married Lacey Alan McMurtry Sr. in 1941 and had two children, Lacy Alan McMurtry and Jerry Sidney McMurtry. They divorced in 1949. Kaye left her job as a dental assistant and with her two children moved from Natchitoches, Louisianan to Richland WA. She was employed at the Uptown Thrifty Drug Store where she met her husband Jim. As a customer, Jim was memorized by her beauty and vivacious character. They were married on November 16, 1956 and remained married for nearly 60 years when she passed.  They had two children, Wally and Lisa.  At the age of 27, Lisa became ill with a rare lung disease. Kaye took a leave from her work to care for Lisa until she passed one year after the birth of her son. Kaye retired early as the manager of the Uptown Thrifty Drug Store to raise Lisa's eight year old daughter, Erica. Kaye was a member of the Richland Missionary alliance church and committed her life to her family and raising her children with Christian values.

Kaye is survived by her loving husband Jim; her sons: Alan (Marilyn) McMurtry, Jerry (Linda) McMurtry and Wally Boak; grandchildren: Justin, Casey and Chris McMurtury, Kimberly Sprowl, Erica (Chris) Snell, Angela Sabin, Ian Hogan and Breanna (Jared) Sanders, great grandchildren; Kayla Shea, Cierra Boak, Taylor Sabin, Soren Snell, Baylee Marie Snell, Amelia Kaye Snell, Macey Marie Sanders and her great-great grandchild: Rielle Sahovic and Ava Purcell.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Lisa Eileen Boak, and eleven brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held Sunday, April 17, 2016 at 2:00pm at Einan’s Events at Sunset Center in Richland, followed by a Committal Service at Sunset Gardens.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Richland Baptist Church.

  • Ancestry and 23 and Me prove that I am directly related to this family. My grandmother Kaye, my Uncle Alan, and my cousin Justin acknowledge this fact. Fortunately, I have had no contact with my father. I am a better person for it.
