From West Richland, Washington | Born in Burrton, Kansas

Millard “Ed” Edwards

Millard Ray Edwards was born January 1, 1938 in Burrton, Kansas. His adventurous life here ended August 15, 2016 as he received a new body in Heaven, free of restrictions.

During his time here he was able to try many things. Ed, as his friends called him, went to New Mexico State University while serving in the US Marine Reserves. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics and started a long career as a computer scientist and respected problem solver. At home we really never knew what he did as he left his work at the labs to enjoy his hobbies and family. His career took him from the Northwest, Seattle, to California, to Los Alamos, back to the Northwest, Benton City, to Salem, to Las Vegas, back to Los Alamos and finally settling in West Richland for retirement. His career was the avenue to let him enjoy his hobbies and family.

Ed married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Sue, right out of high school. Marilyn passed away in 2003 and Ed could never really fill that void. Ed more than enjoyed his hobbies and always included Marilyn and the kids while they were at home.

His first passion was cars and he enjoyed them to the end. He built them, rebuilt them, raced them, cruised around in them until lastly just enjoyed looking at them. We would be amazed that his life’s chronology was always told by what car he owned at the time. Along the way he was a wood craftsman building furniture, and even a beautiful cabin. He also took up camping, fishing, hunting, gold mining, farming, square dancing, competing in horseshoes and bowling.

He was a member of the Elks, American Legion, Ye Olde Car Club, Columbia River Squares, Life Church 7 and probably more.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Tessie Edwards and his wife Marilyn. He is survived by his sister Mary Pate (Gid), daughter Marsha Aiken, (Rob), son Mike (Patricia), and son Monte (Mary).  Also survived by grandchildren Chris Aiken (Sarah Ann), Sarah Butterer (Aaron), Jayne Aiken, Sophie Aiken, Joey Edwards (Katie), Kimberly Edwards, Brandon Edwards (Casey), Jacob Edwards and Majesta Edwards. He also has 4 great grandchildren.

Ed will be missed by his many friends and his family. He taught us all to enjoy life and gave his kids the confidence to try new adventures. A memorial service will be held August 22nd, 11:00am at Life Church 7, 1110 Stevens Drive, Richland, WA. Friends and family are welcome and encouraged to drive their own unique cars.
