Nila Huntsman Mumm passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA surrounded by family.  She was 92 years old.  Nila was born June 17, 1924 to George Albert Huntsman and Deborah Louisa Cox Huntsman at their home in Ferron, Utah.

Nila and her mother had wallpapered most every house in the City of Ferron.  She grew up on a farm and helped out by milking cows, feeding the baby lambs (her favorite thing on the farm) and tromped hay (which she dearly hated) to help her parents.

Nila graduated from South Emery High School in 1942.  She was 4^th in line for Valedictorian.  Nila was Queen of the Gold and Green Ball in Ferron in 1948 and in 1953 in the 18^th ward in Salt Lake City.  She has been a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints all her life and in 1948 had 5 different church jobs at one time.

Nila was awarded the Golden Gleaner award by learning stage makeup from a professional, which she used later to make up casts for numerous road shows in the Richland Stake.  She enjoyed being in the All Church Dance and Music Festivals in the 1950’s in Salt Lake City, UT.

Nila always had a good work ethic.  One of her jobs during World War II, was welding grids in Salt Lake City for Eimac radio tubes and she was a high producer.  While there the company won the Army/Navy (“E”) award.  Nila was also the Ration Clerk for Emery County at the court house, in Castle Dale, UT.

Nila loved office work and was a main office girl at the LDS Improvement Era office in Salt Lake City and worked closely with the General Authorities for 7 years.  She started and ended the Laminate Gifts Program while she was there.

Nila was set up on a blind date with David Lee Mumm, from Richland, WA by a mutual friend.  They corresponded by phone and letters for a couple years and then were married July 25, 1957 in the Manti, Utah temple.  They started married life living in Richland, WA.  Over the course of their married life Nila & David have traveled to 20 temples, 35 states, Canada and Mexico.

After visiting her sister, Naone, in Richland in 1946, Nila thought this was the last place on earth she wanted to live.  But after moving to Richland she really grew to love the area.  She really liked the mild winters and enjoyed the Chinook winds and the geese flying overhead.  In the Richland Stake she served as the Stake Librarian for 47 years.  And still held this calling at the time of her passing.

In Richland, she had learned and loved to decorate cakes, quilt and do crafts of all kinds, sometimes even without a pattern.  She also loved attending all her high school reunions in Utah.  Nila has been a faithful, devoted member of the DUP (Daughters of Utah Pioneers) since her registration in 1963.  She was the longest registered sister in Benton County Company.  Nila served as the Chaplain for her Sage and Sand Camp.

Nila has always been a good friend and has been diligent at keeping in touch with her friends and former classmates with annual Christmas letters and phone calls.  She kept an updated list of all her classmates to send out with her Christmas letters.

Nila was a dedicated mother and grandmother and was always at any activity for her children and grandchildren and ready to help her family any way she could.  She has left her family with a wealth of great memories and traditions and loads of jello recipes.  She was the Jello Queen.  Nila will be dearly missed by her family.

Nila was preceded in death by her parents George & Debbie, husband David, brother Cleon Huntsman, sister Naone Fletcher and granddaughter, Carlayne Rose.

Nila is survived by daughter Carla (Dave) Rose, daughter Cynthia (George) Wood, and grandchildren, Shaleen, Megan and Eric Wood all of Richland, WA.

A viewing will be held Saturday, August 27^th, 2016 from 9:30-10:45am with the funeral following at 11am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1720 Thayer Dr, Richland, WA.

Burial will be at a family plot in Ferron, UT at a later date.
