Bill Frisbee

Billy “Bill” Trent Frisbee

Born 12/27/37 in Juno, NC to Roy & J. Louise Frisbee in his grandparents’ home.  He later returned as a young child to be raised by his grandparents which he called Ma & Pa.

Bill loved the farm life and the freedom he had to run the hills after chores were done.  As his Pa grew weaker Bill grew stronger and helped his Pa with the farm.  Bill researched various crops and introduced his Pa to tobacco growing and before long they became known for having the best Burley tobacco leaves.

Bill was determined to repay as best he could for all that they did for him during the depression years.  He surprised them by driving a school bus at the age of 16 over mountain roads and finding other jobs to supplement the household.  He took care of them until the end.

Bill wanted to become a farmer after high school but his Ma urged him to go to college to make the best of himself while learning all that he could.  With a thirst for knowledge he worked his way thru college getting a Liberal Arts Degree Certificate, Industrial Engineering Certificate, and Micro /Macro Economics Certificate.  He received certifications in NDE, Radiography, Magnetic Particle, Liquid penetrant, Eddy Currant, Visual & many others. After College he became a lead auditor, ANS/ASME level 111 inspector.

He completed his apprenticeship in welding, fitting, mechanical, nondestructive testing & foundry becoming a Supervisor of Nuclear Welding and NDE in Newport News, Virginia while supporting a young family.  While at the Newport News Shipyard he helped to build the U.S.S. Enterprise Aircraft Carrier and the world’s first nuclear submarine.

He chose a career in management and moved into the Nuclear Field.  Bill’s last career move was to Hanford where he worked for multiple companies due to contract acquisitions always remaining in a senior management position.  His knowledge and expertise was a great asset.  He later retired from Hanford after many years of service.

He mentioned several times, as much as he loved his work and the challenges, his big regret was that his career took him away from his family so much of the time.

Bill was a man of many talents and he enjoyed sports, basketball which he played in school and was well known for his ability.  He took up golf & played with some of the pros. He enjoyed bowling and earned many 200 pins. He loved fishing, both in and out of competition, yes he was good at that too.  He was the lead in his young clogging days and could be seen on the Grand Ole Opry.  He took up square dancing becoming president of the CRS Square Dance club for many years. He and his wife (Betty) joined the Melody Mixers round dance club which taught him a few new moves.

Bill has always been a mover and a shaker.  He liked helping others by lending a hand. He worked hard to be the best at whatever task or job he took on.  He enjoyed fast cars and faster boats. He regretted that his last boat did not throw up a big rooster tail.

He had a strong faith in GOD and Country, he was a true patriot. He valued family and tradition. He loved open spaces and like working with his hands. He had a love of animals.  Buddy and Jake (the family dogs) could be seen hovering around him, their pain was his.

The world for your family was greater place with you in it.    We love you.
