John Robinson

John E Robinson, 82, graduated to his eternal home on Saturday, May 14th, 2016 surrounded by family.  He’d suffered a heart attack at home on Friday, May 13th, 2016.

John was born on June 3, 1933, in Rockford Tennessee to James and Martha (Inman) Robinson. He was the 4th of six children.  Throughout his life he remained close to his siblings, traveling back East to visit them several times in recent past.  As an 11 year old boy, John became a follower of Jesus during vacation bible school at Rockford Baptist Church.  During his adolescent years he attended Harrison Chilhowie Baptist Academy. In lieu of tuition, he worked on the property milking cows. Upon completion of high school he returned home and worked with his father for one year.  John joined the US Air Force (1952-1956) where he was a radio operator on a B-36.  Time was spent flying all over the United States, Guam and the Philippines.  John married his love, Jean (Sarchet) in 1955.  All 15 Air Force crew members were able to attend the wedding. The two began a family soon after.  (John) Mark was born in 1956, James in 1959, with Philip following in 1963.  A miracle presented itself in 1966 when John & Jean had the opportunity to adopt a newborn girl. They brought Deborah Jean home from the hospital, where she was immediately welcomed into the family by her big brothers.

After John’s four years of service, he attended Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington where he earned his Master’s degree. He spent his career as both a teacher and pastor, pouring Christ’s love into others.  Early in his career, he was a physical education teacher. After two successful years in Wenatchee, WA the Walla Walla school district recruited him for the newly created position of PE specialist.  At the time, he was the only physical education specialist in the state.  One of his other career blessings was to later serve as Minister to Senior Adults at Richland Baptist Church. Prior to that he pastored small Baptist churches in Monitor, WA, Walla Walla, WA, Basin City, WA, Sunset View in Pasco, WA & Elgin, Oregon.    Most recently he was a member of Blue Mt Baptist Church.

John was able to spend time doing many things he enjoyed such as hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling with Jean. They had visited all 50 United States, taken an Alaskan cruise with the Gaithers, and toured four Hawaiian Islands in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. Family was his greatest pride and joy.  He was honored by four generations of his namesake: John Edward, John Mark, John Urian and John Brayden. Among his fondest memories was celebrating his 80th birthday with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and their parents at Camp Touchet in Dayton, WA.

John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Martha Robinson, as well as a son, David Jon Robinson.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Robinson, sons Mark (Mari) Robinson, James (Lori) Robinson, Philip (Lisa) Robinson, daughter Deborah (Dan) Minteer.  Grandchildren Candace (Phil) Tonn, Crystal (Justin) O’Brien, John (Courtney) Robinson, Micah Robinson, Jessica (Mike) LeDoux, Hannah (Justin) Whitlock, Talise Minteer. Great grandchildren Krista Robinson & Gracelyn & Layla Tonn, Kevin & Eden O’Brien, Brayden Robinson, Adelynne LeDoux (baby girl LeDoux due to arrive June 2016), Ashton Whitlock. Sisters Erma Leach, Elizabeth (John) Barton, Pearl Sue Boon, Nelva Adams. Brother, Bill (Troy) Robinson and several nieces and nephews.
