From Pasco, Washington | Born in St. Paul, Minnesota

Anita Schmidt

Anita Anderson was the third daughter born to Anton and Edith Anderson, in St. Paul, Minnesota, on December 22, 1929.  The Anderson family migrated to Richland, WA, when Anita was a young girl.  She attended high school in Richland and graduated from Pacific Lutheran University.

For many years Anita worked for the State of Washington as a social worker under the Department of Social and Health Services, division of Children and Family Services.  Anita had a very caring heart for children and placed many foster children in nurturing homes.

Anita was a member of Richland Lutheran Church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and taught Sunday School for many years. It was through the church that she met Reverend Sherwin Schmidt, pastor of the Lutheran church in Grandview, WA.  Sherwin and Anita were married in 1976 and lived in Grandview for many years and enjoyed traveling, gardening, and visiting with family and friends.  Anita always spread a wonderful feast for whoever came to visit.

Later Sherwin and Anita moved to Richland, WA, where Sherwin passed away in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Antoinette (Toni) Thompson and brother in law Floyd Thompson, brother in law Bud Peterson and nephew Wally Peterson.  Anita went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 7, 2016.

She loved her pets, especially her little pomeranian, Munchkin, who never left her side.  Anita was also blessed to have her wonderful friends Dan and Gail Langan who helped her so much throughout the years.

She is survived by her sister, Carmelita (Carmi) Peterson and stepchildren, Paula (Don) Heinzerling of Culdesac, ID., Delm (Ron) Burgner of Everett, WA, Phil (Debbie) Schmidt of Hemit, CA., grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday October 15th at 1:00 p.m. at Einan’s Sunset Gardens 915 Bypass Highway, Richland, WA, followed by refreshments and fellowship at the Richland Lutheran Church.
