From Richland, WA | Born in Milwaukee, WI

Robert Frister

Our dear dad, Robert Frister aged 93 died peacefully on Friday April 28, 2017.  He lived in Richland Washington for 70 years and was married to his wife Alice for 67 years.  Alice preceded him to Heaven about 4 years ago.

Bob was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin  to Andy and Florence on Feb. 3.  He had an engineer’s mind and was trained on carborators in the beginning, moving on to airplanes in WWII and then to reactors for 40 years at Hanford.

His children are Paula, Greg, Robin, Mark and Tom.  His grandchildren are Amy, Molly, Katherine, Sara, Stephen, Mclane, Zakary, Mitchell, Becky and Daniel.  Bob has 17 great grand grandchildren.

He gave 230 units of blood, dedicated to saving 690 lives through the RED CROSS.  He loved swimming, bowling, Bingo, and making sure he was never a burden for anyone.  He had great Catholic Christian faith, and was an altar boy through his Bay View High School education.  He never missed Mass until the Sunday after the angels came to escort him to Heaven.

The Memorial Mass will be June 10 and 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church in Richland, Washington with a dessert reception following.  There will be a military send off at Einan’s Sunset Memorial Cemetery at about 1:00 pm and a potluck dinner at the house at about 3 pm.  All Friends and family are encouraged to help the family celebrate.

  • On my very first day of work at Hanford, 37 years ago this week, I showed up at N Reactor not quite knowing where to go or what to do. The patrolmen at the gate decided to call Bob when I told them what I was going to be doing, and he came out to escort me into the plant. He set me up in a room off of his office and started arranging for other Operations people to take me on plant tours and show me the ropes, until I could be assigned to a shift. On May 19, 1980, also not knowing what to do after a natural disaster, I went to the bus lot. Bob saw me while sitting on a bus and mouthed, “go home.” I had an enjoyable day off at home in the beautiful May weather, but had to come back the next day and clean up ash for the next several days. Bob did all he could to make me feel welcome at N Reactor, and I always enjoyed seeing him up until his retirement.

  • It’s so amazing how peaceful Dad went to God. I thank God for that and am amazed. He was our ROCK. So little did I know. Mom and he are doing the Charleston , the Polka and the Swing and he’s singing the choir, too!
Thanks for everything, for teaching me about faith in God, working and saving, and family , our heritage, too.
