Fred Paine

Fred Dewey Paine was born December 29th 1924 in Choctaw, Oklahoma to Orville and Jessie Paine and passed away August 31st 2017 at his home in Benton City, Washington. At the age of four his father would pass away and Art McGee would become his step-father. After the eighth grade Fred would quit school and go to work helping support the family.  In 1941 Fred would join the U.S. Navy where he sailed on several ships during World War Two. After leaving the service in 1947 he returned home and Fred and a couple of his buddies got on their Harley-Davidson motorcycles headed out looking for work First going to the Florida Keys to work and then going out west. It was in Wenatchee, Washington where he would meet Mary Winnie Wisemoore and in 1951 they would marry in Las Vegas Nevada.  Fred and Winnie would adopt a son Douglass in 1956 and adopt a daughter Melodyann in 1959. Also in 1959 Fred would become a Boilermaker Welder. Fred’s work as a Boilermaker in the Seattle Shipyards and building Dam`s, Pipeline`s and Factories would take Him, Winnie, Doug and Meloydann to many places in the Northwest and once to Alaska.  Eventually settling in Benton City, Washington where he would retire in 1986. Camping, fishing and working in his oversized garden especially growing watermelons and cantaloupes were things Fred enjoyed doing. Fred, Winnie and Melodyann would eventually turn the property into a small specialty farming business. Fred also took time in retirement to learn how to fly. Fred and Winnie always found time to travel. It was always important to Fred to visit his Brother and Sisters and all of their family and friends. Fred is survived by his wife of over Sixty Six years Mary Winnie Paine, Sister Jewel Brandt of Wenatchee, Sister Virginia Lundy of Tucson, Brother Richard McGee of Indiana, grandson Jason Jahnke, son in-law Jim Jahnke, (Robyn Huetter-Jahnke). Eleven nieces, Five nephews and many good friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his Father Orville, his Mother Jessie, his step-father Art, his Daughter Melodyann in 2001, and his Son Douglass in 2004.  Winnie and the family would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses that helped Fred during this time of need. Thanks to Dale and Linda LaCour for always including Fred and Winnie in all the family activities and to niece Janice Hull for always helping out. And a very special Thank You to all of Fred and Winnies wonderful friends and fabulous neighbors who helped out in so many ways. A memorial service and a celebration of Fred’s life will be held at Events at Sunset, 915 ByPass Hwy in Richland, Washington Saturday September 9th at 1:00.
