James Dover

James Walter Dover passed away on the morning of Thursday, August 24, at his home in Richland. James was born in Ashburn, Georgia on September 26, 1937. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1957 at the age of 20, served with distinction in Vietnam, contributed to the development of K-9 training for the Security Police, and ultimately attained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He retired from the Air Force after 30 years and then spent another six years with the DOE in Richland. James retired here in Richland in 1996, where he had resided since. 

James was a kind, humorous man who enjoyed golfing, westerns, and spending time with his family, and he was a member of the Freemasons. He is survived by his wife Mary, brother, Clarence, son Verne, daughter Vionnette, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Donald and Robert.

The family would like to thank the Visiting Angels, Chaplaincy Hospice Care, and the Veterans Administration for helping to care for James. A memorial service will be held at Events at Sunset on September 25 at 11:00 a.m., with reception immediately following. Final inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
