Freda Strait

Freda H. Strait, 105, Kennewick, Washington, died on Saturday February 11, 2017, at Trios Southridge Hospital, Kennewick.

Freda, and her identical twin sister Martha, were born August 25, 1911 in Ritzville, Washington to Henry and Mary Harding who IMMIGRATED to the United States in 1905 from Russia, but were of German ethnicity. Eventually the Harding family moved to Colorado.

Freda had 7 siblings, all of whom predeceased her. She and Leland C. Strait were married in 1930. They had 3 children, Nancy, Leland Charles “Skip” and William. The family lived in Colorado, Nevada and Washington. Leland worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. After she and Leland moved to Pullman in 1956, she worked for Holland Library as the printer of index cards for the card catalog. Freda retired in 1972, the same year she earned her General Education Diploma. After spending several retirement years in Pullman, she and Leland moved to Kennewick to be near their daughter and family.

Freda was predeceased by husband, Leland and son William (Bill). She is survived by daughter, Nancy LaPierre, (Duane) of Kennewick, and Leland (Skip) Strait (Gloria) of Olympia. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two nieces from McCall, Idaho.

A special thank you to the caregivers and Fleur de’ Lis Adult Home and the nurses on the second floor North at Trios Southridge Hospital for their loving in care of our mother.

Internment was private.

Her favorite sayings; “Take one day at a time” and “Live each day to the fullest”.
