Stanford John McLerran

Stanford (“Stan”) John McLerran of Richland, Washington passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home on February 8, 2017, at the age of 91. A Certified Public Accountant, Stan ran his own bookkeeping and accounting service in Selah, Washington in the 1950s and early 1960s. In 1965 he moved to Richland to work as an accountant for McDonnell Douglas, subsequently establishing and maintaining a private CPA practice from the mid-1970s until his death.

Stan McLerran was born in Mackey, Idaho on December 8, 1925. He moved to Selah with his parents and two brothers as a young child. His father passed away during the Great Depression when Stan was 12 years old, and he and his brothers worked to help support the family while attending junior high and high school. Upon graduation from Selah High School in 1944, Stan enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II and in postwar China. While on leave in Pennsylvania, he met Geraldine (“Gerry”) Elizabeth Myers, the love of his life, and the two were married in 1944. Stan and Gerry had four children. Their first child, Stanford, Jr., died in a tragic accident at the age of three. Stan was very proud of his 73-year marriage to Gerry. The two remained completely devoted to one another throughout their lives. Stan was also very proud of his children, in whom he instilled a dedication to hard work, life-long learning and public service.

Stan was a member of numerous professional and community service organizations throughout his life, including the Jaycees and the Lions Club. He also served as Post Commander of Richland’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7952.

Stan was a man of great integrity and intelligence. His mind remained razor sharp until the end, allowing him to continue to practice the profession he loved. He also remained physically active, tending the vegetable and flower gardens at his home until shortly before his death.

Stan is survived by his wife, Geraldine Elizabeth Myers McLerran (Richland); three children, Larry Dean McLerran (Seattle, married to Alice McLerran), Dennis James McLerran (Seattle, married to Karin Nyrop), and Jennifer Ann McLerran (Flagstaff, Arizona, married to Tom Patin); and one granddaughter, Kristin Lisa McLerran (Seattle).

A Memorial Service for Stan will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Einan’s at Sunset, immediately followed by a reception.
