From Kennewick, WA | Born in Lovell, WY

Arlene Haynes

Arlene Allphin Haynes (known to the Tri-Cities as the “Grover’s Apple Lady”) passed away peacefully on July 20, 2017, at the age of 81.

As a young girl she moved with her family from Lovell, WY, to Kennewick, WA.  She graduated from Kennewick High School, and then attended Brigham Young University where she met her sweetheart, Ken Haynes.

Ken and Arlene began their life together in Kennewick.  Although Ken’s work took the family various other places during their marriage, Kennewick pulled them back for good in 1974. They have resided there since.  Arlene worked for many years at Grover’s Fruit and Produce where she managed the sales floor and customer relations.  She loved meeting and serving the many people who frequented the farm, and became a true friend to many of them.  Her kindness, generosity, and compassion were felt by all who knew her.

Arlene had a creative side.  She enjoyed gardening, oil painting, crafting, and especially coloring with her grandchildren.  Playing family games, camping, and canoeing were some of her favorite pastimes.  There was nothing she loved more than being with her family!  Arlene had a deep love for animals, and her gentle, kind spirit made her a natural with them.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, her parents George and Catherine Allphin, brothers Jay and Mervin, and sister Faye.  She is survived by her sisters Peggy Ogborn and Christie Christensen, and her children DeLynn Craigo (Clayton), Kevin Haynes (Darcy), and Steven.  She was a delightful grandma to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Arlene’s funeral service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017, 10:00 AM at the Buntin Building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 820 S. Buntin Street, Kennewick, WA.

  • We would love to visit Arlene when we came to visit the family and the farm. She was so loving and kind. She always gave us her big, wonderful smile, and a big hug. Things weren’t the same when “the Grover’s apple lady” stopped working on the farm. Our best wishes and condolences to your family.
