From Richland, WA | Born in Bath, NY

Helen Speer

Our Mom, Helen L. Speer, completed her earthly journey on July 20, 2017. Mom was born September 12, 1921 in Bath, New York.  She and her brother, Chester, were raised by their widowed mother, Katherine.

Mom, always a good student, graduated with high honors from Haverling High School.  Shortly thereafter, she went to work, finding employment with the Corps of Engineers.

There she met, Lee Speer, marrying Dad in 1942. In 1948, she and Dad came to Richland.  Mom settled in, raising her two children.  Eventually, she went to work at Hanford, finally retiring in 1994.

Mom is survived by her children, Lee Jr. and Regina, and her granddaughter, Suzanne. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Lee, and daughter in law Anna, and brother Chester.

Services will be at 11am at Christ the King Church in Richland on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 followed by a graveside at Sunset Gardens.

Good bye Mom, we miss you.

  • Helen and I worked together in Safeguards and I adored her. She was a hoot, never complained and always found the “upside” of every difficult assignment. She was an original, you and Lee were blessed to have her for so long. She will always be in my heart and a happy memory.

  • Lee/Regina – my sympathies are with you. I have fond memories of your mother when I came to your house every morning on our way to Chief Joseph. Your mother was a loving person with a great sense of humor. YES; she will be missed, and I can tell you from my experience, you will never forget her. There will be a special place in your heart where she will continue to speak to you, and YES, “mother you”. Listen and continue to love; Always LOVE.
    Your friend;
