Donald C. Smith
Donald Clay Smith, age 76, went to the loving arms of Jesus Christ on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Trios Southridge Hospital. Don was born on October 20, 1940, to Harold A. Smith and Isabelle M. Smith in El Monte, California. Don lived in many great areas in California but his family settled in Palmdale and Lancaster, CA. At Palmdale high school, Don fell in love with, and decided he was going to marry, Sandy Bloomberg. After dating for a few years and spending one year in the Navy, they married October 21, 1961. After several moves around the western United States, Don and Sandy settled in Othello and Don built a boom loader to earn money. From 1966 to 2016, Don and Sandy grew alfalfa, potatoes and wheat and ran the farm with daughter, Debbie, and son, Scott. 2013 Don & Sandy bought a dry land cattle ranch in Kalotus, WA. Unfortunately, Don was diagnosed with mesothelioma (a very rare lung cancer) in 2015 but God gave him two and a half more years with his family. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and husband of 56 years. Don’s work ethic and love for God were apparent in his everyday life and he would never hesitate to help someone in need or invite them into his life. His sense of humor and ability to infect those around him with happiness will not be forgotten.
Please join Don’s loved ones for a memorial service at 11:00am on Saturday, September 23, 2017; Location: Events at Sunset, 915 By Pass Hwy, Richland, WA 99352. A Committal service will follow at Sunset Gardens.
