Penny Higginson-Fisher (Geiger)

Penny Higginson-Fisher (Geiger), 68, passed away on September 25, 2017 in Punta Gorda, FL. She was born March 3, 1949 in Glendive, MT.

Penny Higginson-Fisher lived in the Tri-Cities for over 25 years prior to moving to Florida working for the Kennewick School District in the Administrative Department.  Prior to that, Penny lived and traveled all over the United States with her husband at the time, Gene Fisher.  During her time in the Tri-Cities, Penny mostly enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren, loving nothing more than spending quality time with them attending family outings and events.  She was very proud of both her children and grandchildren and spoke often of their achievements. Penny enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening, and working around her home whether it be renovating, painting or tending to her plants and flowers. She was a voracious reader and rarely did one see her without a book or her kindle in hand.  She also loved to travel, whether it was plane trips to NY, Las Vegas or Texas, Cruises to Alaska, Panama, Puerto Rico, or the Caribbean Islands, or road trips to California, Seattle, Vancouver, and the Oregon Coast - which she loved best.  Penny was a quiet type but when encouraged, she had an adventurous spirit.  In 2006 along with her spouse, Patty, Penny moved from Kennewick to Edmonton, Canada.  While there Penny, at age 60, decided to take up motorcycling and toured the Canadian Rockies from Jasper to Banff on her Burgman 400 with the wind in her hair and a smile on her face.  She was never happier.  In 2012 Penny moved to Punta Gorda Florida where she spent most of her time outdoors reading, walking, biking or swimming in her pool as she adored the warmth of the sun and being near the water. Penny was an encouraging mother to her children and grandchildren, loving them more than anything.  She was a loyal and trusted friend, and a faithful, caring and loving wife. Those are the things she would have been most proud of.  She left her mark on this earth by touching the hearts of everyone she met with her quiet strength and gentle soul and she will be sorely missed by all of those who loved her.

Penny is survived by spouse, Patty Higginson-Fisher, of Punta Gorda, FL; daughter, Monica Wheeler and her husband Dave of Pasco WA; son, Jim Fisher and his wife Terry of Lodi, CA; grandson, Ryan Wheeler and granddaughter Lauren Wheeler, of Pasco WA. Penny is also survived by her sister, Gayle Young and her husband Harvey, of Billings, MT, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, June Geiger; father, Pius Geiger; brother, Pius Geiger, and sister, Jan Vertommen.

A Memorial Service will be held at Events at Sunset, Saturday November 11, 2017 at 1pm with a reception immediately following.

  • You said to me before you left “I will miss your physical presence.” It is true…I know the essence of you is still here with me but the loss of your physical presence is sometimes devistating. Soon we will all gather to celebrate your life and the gift of unconditional love you left behind to sustain us through your absence…that gift, that love, is how you will live on, through your children, your grandchildren, your family, and theough me, your loving wife. Fly now sweetie, fly…..
