James Powell

James Powell passed away on February 4, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was born on January 21, 1944 in Michigan and was the third oldest child in a family of seven.

James enlisted in the Navy in 1962 and served for 4 years. He received his honorable discharge in 1966. After the Navy, James studied Mechanical Engineering at California Polytechnic State University and received his bachelor's degree in 1972.

Later he worked on the construction of nuclear power plants in California, Oregon and Washington. After that James proceeded to work in the oil industry in Prudhoe Bay along with a refinery in Lima, Ohio. James retired in 2012.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, shooting, cars and caring for his dogs. James also enjoyed caring for his hunting dogs.

James is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Christa Powell; sons, John and David Powell; step-children, Sherry McWherter, George Romine, Rita Romine, Rene Nicks, and Sean Romine; brothers, Jack, Jerry, and Michael Powell; and sisters, Peggy McKnight and Kathy Lieb. He had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Vera and Charles Powell and older brother Patrick.  

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 17th, 2018 at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home (915 Bypass Highway, Richland, WA) at 11:00 am.
