Wilson Captain R. Kirk
A long time resident of Richland for 54 years, Wilson Will Robert Kirk passed away on January 18, 2007, at the age of 90 in his home.
Will was born in Denver, CO, on May 7, 1916, to Roy and Ida Kirk. He joined the CCCs to support his mother and siblings in his teen years. Raised during the Depression years taught him important lifetime principles which he shared with his family and later frequently expressed his thanks for his good fortune and many blessings. Will was preceded in death by his lovely wife Ruth Catherine Repp of 65 years, his parents, and siblings, Earl Kirk, Leona Kirk, Ruth Eddy, and Alvin Kirk.
Will and Ruth were married on November 13, 1938, in Denver and blessed with two daughters. Will became a professional baker in several of the prestigious hotels in Denver and Colorado Springs prior to transferring to Hanford in 1944 from DuPont arms plant. While working at Hanford, he held a variety of management positions in the 300 Area until his retirement in May 1981.
Together Ruth and Will enjoyed playing golf at the Tri-City Country Club as members for more than 30 years, and Salishan Golf Club when they visited their beach home in Lincoln City OR. Each competed in golf tournaments and received numerous trophies and awards. Will was proud of his four holes-in-one. His interest in golf began at the age of 12 when he caddied in Denver. He became a computer guru at the age of 85 and known as Captain Kirk to his many friends and acquaintances.
Will is survived by his two special daughters, Roberta Myers and Bonnie Kirk; three grandchildren, Diana Mross, Joellyn Myers, and John Myers; two great-grand children, Ashley and Benjamin; and his beloved 18-month great-great granddaughter Natalie 5 generation; two nephews, Bill and Lee Kirk, and sister-in-law Doris Kirk.
Viewing will be on Sunday, January 21, 2007, from 1 to 5 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 22 at 10 a.m. and a following graveside service at Einans Funeral Home located at Swift Avenue and the by-pass Highway in Richland.
The family thanks all of the many friends and caregivers who loved and cared for Will. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
Kirk Families…Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your Father/GrandFather.
My folks ‘B’ & Fran Behymer played lots of golf with your Mom & Dad.
Will and my father, George Pugh, worked together at Remington Arms in Denver during the war. Will got a real kick out of telling my brother, David Pugh, and me about George being the Quality Inspector for bullets on the line where Will worked. Several of my Crose family uncles and cousins worked there, too, and I wish I’d asked more questions and understood that time better. Will was such a fabulous friend in my dad’s waning years, visiting, driving, sharing meals and stories. I’m glad I had the chance in those years to get to know Will and Ruth, and I know how much they both are missed by all their family. Life’s circle is a mystery, but what a blessing to live long enough to enjoy watching the younger ones take their places. Farewell, Will!
