Delbert “Woody” Woodford

Delbert "Woody" Woodford passed away on May 8, 2013, in Seattle, WA at Swedish Medical Center, at the age of 69. Born to Frank and Marvel Woodford on February 1, 1944, in St. Helens, OR, Woody was the 5th of 10 children.

He grew up in St. Helens, OR which is where he developed a passion for flowers and trees, enlisting in the Navy when he was 18 years old. He was stationed in Pensacola, FL where he met and fell in love with his loving wife of 49 years. They married two days after her 18th birthday and together built a beautiful family of seven. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, the family moved back to the Northwest and landed in Tri-Cities, WA in 1975; where they have lived for the past 38 years.

Woody was a skilled union carpenter by trade but ended up as a water utilities operator out in the Hanford area for 24 years until his retirement in 2003. He built many strong and lasting friendships throughout his career. After his retirement, he enjoyed working in his yard, taking the motor home fishing and camping, and spending quality time with his family.

Woody is preceded in death by both of his parents, and his youngest son, Duane Woodford. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Woodford, his sons; Donnie and Terry Woodford, and his daughters; Merry Mercer and Rebecca Woodford, his brothers; Jim, Ron, and Bob Woodford and his sisters; Donna Hecht, Bernice Sparks, Barb Gerber, Lillian Hudson, Ella King, and Betty Grau, his 14 grandchildren; Jessica, Christopher, Scott, Miranda, Danielle, Kyle, Terra, Katrina, Kayla, Kimberly, Morgan, Travis, Lexi, Katie, and seven great grandchildren.

Woody was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a passionate family man with a sense of humor that will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Viewing will be Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 5pm-8pm at Einan's Funeral Home in Richland, WA. The funeral services will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11am at Memories at Sunset Event Center in Richland, WA with a luncheon reception to follow.
