When Talking To A Funeral Home

There is much to consider when a loss occurs, what follows will help you prepare you for what’s to come When comparing service and merchandise prices between funeral homes it is important to make sure you compare apples to apples. The following are a list of suggested questions to ask.

Questions to Consider

If the funeral home provides packages, what exactly is included?

This is a good question. Most funeral home packages are different. If you are comparing package to package, please consider what is in each. Some may have memorial programs and DVDs while others may not. Some may include merchandise, some may not. Cremation and burial packages at Einan’s include services only. All merchandise, stationery products, catering, beer and wine service, and tax are added to the package amount. All cemetery property is sold separately by our Cemetery at Sunset Gardens.

What doesn’t the package include? Are there other fees that are required to make that package complete?

All packages are different so it’s important to look past the name of the package. You really have to look at each line item included. If there is no information on the package you are looking out ask the funeral home to provide you with more information. Cremation and Burial packages at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home include services only. All merchandise, stationery products, catering, beer and wine service, and tax are added to the package amount. All cemetery property is sold separately by our Cemetery at Sunset Gardens.

When choosing cremation does the package include a cremation fee?

At Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home, our cremation packages DO include the cremation fee, but be sure to ask if you are shopping around. Some funeral homes use their cremation packages to hook you, and then tack on extra charges once you get in the door. The crematory fee is a common one.

For burial or cremation, does the package include merchandise such as casket, cremation container or urn?

At Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home our cremation and burial packages do NOT include merchandise such as the casket, cremation container or urn. It is important to consider these things when shopping around. Burial and cremation packages tend to change from funeral home to funeral home so make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Does the package include flowers or stationary?

Our cremation and burial packages do NOT include flowers or stationery. These are common add on items at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home.

Does the package include the usage of facilities for a reception or gathering?

Many of our cremation and burial packages at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home include usage of our facilities (Sunset Chapel at the Funeral Home or Main Hall at the Event Center) for a service, celebration of life, gathering, funeral, open house. All receptions with catering are common add on items at our funeral home and event center.

Is food included in the package?

No, we do have catering packages though. We have two preferred caterers: Fat Olives Catering and Henry’s Restaurant and Catering. Ask one of our funeral directors for a menu! We have several options and can customize something unique if you don’t see what you want. Our catering packages for both cremation and burial include all rental of facility for reception, food, china, wait staff, and tax.

Are you able to handle all aspects of the arrangement and service in one location?

Yes. We are blessed to be a funeral home, cemetery, event center combo. This makes for a much more seamless planning session when you meet with our funeral directors, cemetery and event center staff. Families comment all the time about how nice it is to be able to plan everything all at one place. Some even refer to as a one-stop shopping kind of experience. Not all funeral homes or cemeteries are set up this way.

Do you charge extra for after hour visitation, services or weekend services?

Great question! Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home DOES have additional charges for after hour visitations and services AND for weekend services. Just like you, family is important to us. We know that the best way for us to take care of you is to take care of ourselves first…so we can effectively be there for you. Having said that, evening and weekend services tend to be our most popular day. WE will not deny you a day/time (unless it conflicts with another service) but unfortunately, there is a charge because we have to bring people in. Most people tend to understand. The cemetery also has an OVERTIME fee for weekends.

Do you charge extra for bringing my loved one back in to your care after hours?

Another great question! When you call Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home to respond when a death has occurred, whether its day or night, we have one charge within 75 miles.

How far will you travel for services and/or bringing my loved one back into your care before additional charges occur?

Our packages cover transportation up to 75 miles, beyond the 75 miles there would be an additional fee per mile one way.

Do you have a celebrant on staff?

We have two certified celebrants on staff and one, uncertified but highly trained celebrant on-call.

Does the funeral home make contact or arrange: personal records and development of obituaries, set up and organization of military honors, music and celebrant arrangements, floral tributes, grief support, and equipment operation on the day of service, catering and 24/7 one on one support?

YES, we do all of this for you. Personal records and development of obituaries, setting up and organizing military honors, music and celebrant arrangements, floral tributes, grief support, and 24/7 support charges are all included in our basic service of funeral director in staff charge on our General Price List. Honorariums for celebrants are considered add ons to the contract along with cost of floral arrangements chosen. Use of facilities, staff and equipment for the day of the service are included in our funeral/memorial charge on our General Price List.

Does the funeral home have its own crematory?

This is one of the most important questions when considering cremation for your loved one! Not all funeral homes have a crematory on site. We DO have an on-site, state-of-the art crematory at Einan’s at Sunset Funeral Home so you can rest assured that your loved one is with us from start to finish.

How do you accommodate my cultural and/or religious preferences?

We are only limited by our imaginations. We most definitely can accommodate your cultural and/or religious preferences. Just talk to your funeral director and we can make it happen!
