Gregory Phillip Graves

A child of God was taken home on March 28, 2014 and although his earthly family will miss him we look forward to being reunited again. Gregory P. Graves was born in Nampa, Idaho on July 11, 1952. He spent some of his childhood in Roseburg Oregon, but then moved to Medford, Oregon where he graduated Medford Senior High in 1971 go Black Tornados. After graduation Greg moved to Yakima, Washington where he met his lovely wife Sandra V. Graves of 41 years. He later continued his education at YVCC through night courses. He moved with his wife Sandy Graves to the Tri-Cities Washington in 2004. He had worked on the Hanford Nuclear Site for 35 years in Richland, Washington. Greg and his family received a lot of blessings and miracles throughout his life including his ability to help his kids with their paper routes during his dialysis days, two kidney transplants, and living to 61 years of age with Alport's Disease. Not only was Greg a loving husband of 41 years, he was also a loving father to Mark Graves, 39 of Everett, WA and April Graves, 36 of Poulsbo, WA. Greg cared deeply for his wife and family. Family members who are there in heaven welcoming him home include his late parents Robert and Hester Graves and youngest brother Richard Graves. Greg was a loving brother to sisters Loretta Mapes and Sandie Graves of Yakima, WA, Roberta Dietmeyer of Portland, OR, and brothers Randy Graves of Medford, OR and Fred Graves of Eureka, CA. Greg was also a beloved son in-law, brother in-law, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend to many. Greg's focus was always to provide for his wife and children while finding time to help in the church. His faith in God never faltered in his walk through life. Greg was a loving, caring, humorous, and sincerely religious family man. Greg did not allow adversity to get him down; in fact he asked that we put the following in his obituary before he died of cancer "I courageously fought the battle with cancer and won" Greg did not lose this battle, he won the best prize; eternity in heaven.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Memories at Sunset Event Center, 915 By-Pass Hwy, Richland.

A celebration of his life will be held at Bethel Church 600 Shockley Rd, Richland, WA 99352 at 2pm Sunday, April 6th.

In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the Bethel Church for the Global/Local Outreach Fund.

Psalms 73:23-26 Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.

  • I remember when we were small children seven of us, not a worry in the world living on a back road in southern Oregon. We all managed to grow up and scatter, and now here I am many years later saying good bye to my brother and to let all know he will be missed in my life. We will see you on the other side brother.

  • We met Sandy & Greg when they moved into our neighborhood in Richland. Better neighbors could not be found. We were always impressed with Greg’s cheerful outlook on life. Greg is at peace now, but I know the pain of losing a loved one will be hard for his family. I hope they can take comfort in the many memories they’ve created together.

  • Sandy, Mark & April,

While we rejoice along with you that Greg is rejoicing in Heaven, we grieve the loss we all feel. Greg was an incredible man and I am so honored to have formed a special bond with Greg and the Graves family. Please know you are in my prayers and that Dave and I are here for you if you need anything at all!

We are thinking about you during this difficult time and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. There is no doubt that Greg is with Jesus, Our Savior! Even though we have been separated by years and miles, we cherish the wonderful memories we shared with you all. I asked Don what else I should write, and he summed it up, “Good friends are NEVER forgotten!”

  • Greg was a wonderful Boss to work for. We shared lots laughter and stories throughout the days, Greg always had a smile to share. I remember when I got the call of a tragic accident involving my Daughter I can still hear Greg comforting words that helped me pull my thoughts together before I got back in my car headed home. Greg was one co-worker anyone could count on for his wisdom and tribal knowledge of Hanford. He was always willing to stop his task to help anyone, He will truly be missed and I know that Greg is in the lord home now. See you on the other side Buddy.

  • Graves Family,

I have known Greg for years working with him at the Hanford site. When I decided to become a planner he took me under his wing and showed me the ropes of being a planner and all the short cuts to getting things that I might need. I considered him a friend from the time I first met him. The Graves family is in our prayers and thoughts.

  • Greg was a good and honest man.

We admired his good attitude, despite all his health problems.

Greg always disappeared one or two times a year coming back each time with stiches all over where he had cancer cut out.

Greg always came back without complaining and just smiled and went back to work.

Greg could have easily felt like life was not fair to him, but instead he realized that we are just briefly passing through this life’s experiences, and that the purpose of this life is beyond this life.

We count it an honor to have known and worked with Greg Graves.

A fellow planner that worked with Greg for years and now find myself sitting in his office, hopefully learning to do this job to his high standards.

  • During the last few years I had the pleasure of working with, and getting to know, Greg. I have always admired not only his professionalism, but the strength and faith he demonstrated throughout life. He will be missed, and our prayers are with the family.

  • Sandy, April and Mark… Only inadequate sentiment precedes condolences, but we can say this with certainty. We hadn’t known Greg beyond the first block party and we felt he was the most godly man we had ever met. Each of you and his legions of friends are blessed to have known him. His eternal life is so richly deserved, something to smile about. But we’re so sad about your loss.

  • Sandy, Mark and April,

While we mourn the loss of your husband, your father and our dear friend, we rejoice with you that Greg’s name is written in the Lamb’s book of life! He “fought the good fight… finished the race” and has received the crown of righteousness.
