  • Eddie Lerma was my friend. We met about 12 years ago, our wives were friends from church and got us
together during football season. Eddie and I bonded instantly; it was like we had always been friends.
That’s just how he was really. He gave me crap for being a Patriots fan but we both hated on the
Raiders…LOL! Eddie started coming to church and it wasn’t long before he was serving and helping at
church. Him and I used to park cars as they came into church. We did this for a few years and then
moved into the security team and children’s ministries. Eddie loved kids!!! He was very protective of
the kids at church and he took his role seriously, but he always stopped and got down to say hello to the
children. He made a voice only he could do, and he would smile and laugh with the kids. It was truly
    remarkable.
A few years back Eddie and I were working a security detail and our Team Lead approached us and asked me if I would consider being a lead on the security team. I said, “Well Ed’s better than me. The only reason you think I know what I’m doing is because I’m following him”. And that was that. He became the Lead. As we walked away, he said jokingly, “Dang, these clowns don’t even know who I am Big Jon!!” and we shared a laugh for a few minutes! Everybody at church loved Eddie; there just wasn’t anything not to like. He was the best you could ask for.
To be honest, in a lot of ways, he saved my life. From the moment he came into my life things just got better and better for me. Eddie encouraged me and helped me gain confidence in myself. He is the real MVP.
That said, the most important thing to know about Eddie Lerma is that God lived inside him. Eddie humiliated hell on a daily basis and demonstrated the enemy’s defeat. Eddie brought the Kingdom of Heaven down to earth just like all of us who believe on Him ought to do, amen!
