Pompeyo Icayan

Pompeyo Orcullo Icayan was born on August 7, 1926, in Kawit, Cavite in the Philippines.  He passed away peacefully on March 2, 2022 at his home in Richland, WA.

The youngest of 11 siblings, he had lived through WWII while in high school, before being fortunate enough to attend the university where he studied architecture and was at the top of his class.  Upon graduating, he worked at the US Naval base in Sangley Point before meeting his wife, Elena E. Icayan. They married in 1954 and had 4 children.  In 1972 he and his family moved to the US where he worked in several prestigious architectural firms in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA before settling in Richland, WA. He has designed multiple buildings and houses including the old, landmark McCurley Chevrolet domed showroom in Pasco, WA.

Pompeyo was a quiet and thoughtful person but could always find the humor in just about anything.  He donated to many causes and always felt gratitude for the country that welcomed him and allowed him and his family to prosper.  He had a fondness for classical music, seafood, crossword puzzles, WWII history and closely followed the Seahawks and Mariners teams throughout their seasons. Pompeyo retired at the age of 65 and remained a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to many.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elena E. Icayan (94), sons Erwin Icayan (67), Ron Icayan (66), Cesar Icayan (57) and daughter Liza Tung (58) and their spouses as well as his grandchildren Bradley (44), Shaun (41), Eric (36), Ashley (34), Lorien (32), Brittany (31), Austin (28), Kinzie (26), Madeleine (22) and many great grandchildren.
