Martha Jean Berry Parker
June 14, 1930 – April 9, 2022
Pasco, Washington

Martha Jean Berry Parker passed away April 9, 2022 at From the Heart in Pasco. She was born June 14, 1930 and was just a few months from reaching the age of 92. God had other plans and we are sure she was grateful for His intervention. Husband Eugene David Parker passed January 17, 2000. Martha passed away on what would have been their 63 anniversary. Eugene’s ashes will be interred at the same time as Martha’s burial; finally at rest.

Martha was one of 5 children; Eugene was one of 4 children: Martha is survived by sister, Betty Berry Kallestad of Spokane and brother, Marcus Berry and wife Patricia Bauer Berry of the Seattle area and their families. Eugene’s surviving family are his sister-in-law, Marji Wilbur Parker of Pasco and brother, Dean Nichols and wife Carla Ashby Nichols of the Seattle area and their families.

Predeceasing Martha are Martha’s sister and husband Audrey Berry Kimbrough and Bob Kimbrough of Pasco, brother-in-law Chuck Kallestad (wife Betty) of Spokane, and sister and husband Jim and Mary Berry Tallent of the Seattle area; Eugene was predeceased by his brother Ivan Parker (wife Marji) of Pasco, sister and brother-in-law Joyce Parker Jakes and Boyd Jakes of Richland predeceased Martha. Martha’s mother Sybil Berry Garbett, father Lee Berry, and step-father “Dixie” Garbett predeceased Martha. Eugene’s mother Maude “Pat” Parker Nichols, father Frank Parker, and step-father Leonard Nichols predeceased Eugene.

Eugene and Martha had five challenging and delightful children. The eldest, and most delightful, Karen Parker Bertsch and loving husband Robert of Kennewick are parents of three children: Tim (children Micah, Zoe, Naomi, Niya, and Judah; mother Erica) and wife Rachel of Yakima, Leslee and wife Melissa (and grandpup McCartney) of Kennewick, and Deidre and husband Matthew Riesenweber of Kennewick, (children Kaylee and William) and Janet Parker (clearly the smartest) and family of the Sacramento area. Polly Parker Goddard and husband Mike of Pasco are parents of James (wife Kara, children Samantha, Alexandra and Keith) and Brian (wife Shawnna, children Nathan, Parker and Madelyn). Chad Parker and wife Susan of Kennewick are parents of Megan. Mary Parker Matthews (youngest and everyone’s favorite) and charming husband Bill of Alabama are parents of Jillian. With Eugene and Martha’s 9 siblings, their spouses and their children, there were plenty of cousins. No family gathering was small.

Martha was the author of three books: Tales of Richland about Richland before Hanford, one about Kennewick, and a compilation of old, local maps. She was an extraordinary researcher. And she loved genealogy! She could sew anything and especially loved sewing prom dresses. She was a wonderful artist, she loved oil paints. She loved taking pictures, especially at all the family events. She was happiest with a house full of extended family eating and laughing and enjoying lots of great food. We often watched home movies, or slides of someone’s vacation. In their retirement years Eugene and Martha loved to hike and travel to areas with interesting geological formations. Now they are together in heaven smiling at the lives they lived.
