Deon Jones
Deon was born November 29, 1915, in Fairview Utah, to Parley Peter and Lydia Jenivee Olson. She passed away Friday, November 25, 2022, just a few days before her 107th birthday. She was the youngest in her family of four and raised by her widowed mother. She married her high school sweetheart Robert Miner Jones, April 17, 1935, in the Manti Temple. While living in Fairview, they had 2 daughters, Sharlene & Mary.
The family moved to Salt Lake City, UT, where Robert worked at Remington Arms. When the Hanford Project began, they packed all their belongings, floor to ceiling, in an old Chevrolet, with the four of them in the front seat sitting on quilts, and moved to Richland, WA in 1943. There they had a son, Dennis.
Deon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved serving in many capacities. After retirement, she and her husband served a mission for The Church in Mississippi. They also served many years in the Seattle Temple.
She loved her family, holding babies anytime she could, and her greatest joy came from their visits. She always wanted them to stay longer or move closer.
We know she is happily reunited with her husband of 69 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Alden and her sisters Delsa and Mada. She leaves behind Sharlene (Elton) Hunt, Mary Metcalf, Dennis (Ronnie) Jones, 11 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 24 great, great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 895 Gage Blvd., Richland. The family will receive guests 10-11 am in the Primary Room. Funeral service at 11 am.
I’m thankful my sister, Karen, shared the news of Aunt Deon’s passing. I have fond, loving memories of her and Uncle Rob… always great examples of kindness and faith. My sympathies to all of the family.

I loved Aunt Deon and Uncle Rob so much. They were like my second parents even though we lived apart most of the time. I wish I could be there. Holding comforting thoughts and love for the family. Keeping you in my prayers.
Dear Family of Deon Jones, I loved your mother dearly. We were Visiting Teaching companions in Issaquah Washington. I would do the driving and she would give our sisters a beautiful lesson. We always had so much fun being together. We once took a tour of Tillicum Island and had a salmon dinner and entertainment. I called to wish her a Happy Birthday and they told me she had passed last week. I wish she could have reached the 107 year mark! I visited with her last June. My son lives in Richland and we were there to babysit the children. Deon never complained and always had a smile on her face. She said to me the last time I saw her “I don’t know why I am still here?” I am so happy I can have all the fun memories of our good times.
