Kenneth Weissenfels

Kenneth Floyd Weissenfels passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco, WA. He was born on March 29, 1928 in Anatone, WA to William Peter and Barbara Weissenfels. He was the youngest of 7 children. Ken attended high school in Anatone and Clarkston, WA.

Ken met the love of his life while in high school – a gorgeous young lady from Asotin, WA, LaVerne Kruse. They were wed on September 16, 1945 in Clarkston, WA and were married for 69 years. Ken and LaVerne had 3 children – sons Gary and Ron, and daughter Colleen.

Ken and LaVerne lived in Clarkston early on and he worked for the Standard Oil Company. In 1957, the family moved to Craigmont, ID where Ken owned a Chevron Station. In 1960, the family relocated to Lewiston while Ken continued to work for the Chevron company for 3 years. They finally settled in Richland, WA to make their home. Ken worked for the Hanford reservation as a plant operator. Ken and LaVerne were members of Richland Temple Baptist Church and loved their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Ken’s interests included camping and fishing on the Tucannon River, the Grande Ronde, and at Kelly Creek on the Salmon River. In his early years, he liked playing guitar and steel guitar with frequent family musical get-togethers. He enjoyed being at the “40” property in the blue mountains where he cut down trees for firewood and cared for the property. He loved the company of family and friends and the reunions that were had at the “40”. He also loved to watch his grandson and great-grandsons play football and baseball.

Ken is survived by his son, Gary (Lee) of Clarkston, WA; daughter-in-law, Barbara; and daughter, Colleen (Doug). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife (LaVerne), son (Ron), both of his parents (William Peter and Barbara); his brothers Fred (Abby), Ira (Aldine), and Roland (Eleanor); sisters Anna (Charles) Enyeart, Agnes (Ralph) Stember, and Stella (Jim) McEvers; and a grandson (Alan Plank).

A celebration of life service will be held at Einans on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 10am, graveside at 11am and reception following at noon.

We love you forever, dad! And one day will be with you again.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Ps 139:23-24.
