  • Lloyd and I worked as greens keepers out at the West Richland Country Club, the goat ranch. He kept my eyes watering I laughed so hard at his jokes about everything. Then there was the weekend we did some duck hunting on the Yakima River. We were so tired on Sunday we fell a sleep in our blinds, waking up to a huge flock of Mallards in our decoys. We didn’t even get a shot off. Another venture of Lloyd’s old Voxel, Lloyd and me. Lloyd is a terrific person and I’m sure he will be missed, extremely.

  • My mother JoAnn (Rice) Nai-che and my sisters knew Lloyd through the theater. We have nice memories of him from when we were young. We are sorry to hear of his passing.

  • My late brother Kenny and I danced with Lloyd and Linda when we were probably 6 and 7. Even then, Lloyd was an entertainer! I never forgot him. Over the years, I saw him at Rotary club meetings and other community functions, and we always reminisced about our “dancing smiles” performance—yes that’s us in the memorial program. Lloyd was a wonderful, talented man who entertained us for so many years. He will not be forgotten!
By the way I’ m pretty sure he was in the Col-Hi production of Li’l Abner in 1965.

  • What a loss to all. So caring, creative, and wonderfully talented.
Having known Lloyd since grade school, and remembering what a presence he always was… he was the “pep” in every high school pep assembly…and that was just a glimpse of his many gifts. Lloyd, you will be missed in the lives of so many. Sincere condolences and prayers for Ruth, Linda, and family.

  • Lloyd will always hold a special place in my heart. From his help filming our Teen Theater skits back in the 90’s, to mentoring me when I helped film Dust Devil games, he was a special person full of heart and laughter. Many condolences to Ruth and family.

  • Lloyd was a class act even in grade school. He is still “The Class” of our RHS class of 1966. Thanks for being here for all of us. Rest in peace dear friend. God bless Linda, Ruth and the family.

  • Lloyd was the first Bomber I reconnected with when I came back to teach at CBC in 2006. He helped me and several students shoot spots at the Charter studio for the Dental Hygiene department, putting us all at ease with his humor. His recovery from cancer was nothing short of a miracle – we obviously needed him here longer. Now that his purpose is complete I know that I am a better person for having known and reconnected with him. Lloyd we thank you for the blessing of your life with us.

  • What a class act Lloyd was. Vicki and I have lived all over the world through the military, and we have never met a nicer person than Lloyd Swain.
Vicki will be attending Lloyds funeral however, I am committed to a VA appointment in Spokane that I cannot miss. I am not happy about missing Lloyds service but I will be there in spirit and my condolences and prayers are with you Ruth.

  • My earliest memory of Lloyd is from when he played the father in Bye Bye Birdy at Columbia High (that’s in Richland for you young folk). His performance absolutely blew my mind. It was immensely entertaining while at the same time being obviously great fun for him. That planted the seed that allowed me the courage to join a community theater group years later (in my thirties) and have that kind of fun myself. I have thought of Lloyd and that performance many times over the years while other memories fade. We never really knew each other that well but I owe him a lot.

  • I will remember Lloyd for his wonderful, genuine smile, his ability to make me forget the camera was on and his encouragement to just be myself. He was a true professional who cared deeply about people. We will miss him greatly.

  • I was so sorry to read of Lloyd’s passing. He was a creative and caring person and will be missed by many people including his ’66 family at RHS. It was always a joy to see him at the reunions. I hope there will be a memorial at next year’s 50th. My condolences to his wife and sister and the rest of his immediate family.

  • Lloyd was such a nice guy. I feel for his family. I met Lloyd in school and became fiends and lifelong Bombers. What a great attitude and demeanor . He always called me “Don” even in high school. I always thought that was funny! We have lost a good man .

  • The earliest memories of Lloyd and his sister were from the 4th grade. We met in the music room after school each day. After the music class we would walk home together and talk about music, tap dancing go figure. We shared many memories during those walks. We will all miss your many talents. God Bless you Lloyd Swain.

  • We didn’t see much of Lloyd this year at Rotary, and his absence was always felt because when he was there he always had a smile and a warm greeting for everyone. Lloyd interviewed me several times when I was an Assistant Manager at DOE, and it was an experience to look forward to–his questions were direct, but gentle and polite, and he never made me feel like I was being interrogated. When he rigged up a duck with a camera so we could experience what it felt like to “be” in the Rotary duck race, it was a sight to see. We’ve lost a friend, and one of the best cameramen and interviewers around. We’ll miss you, buddy.
