David Hare “Gunny”

On December 15th 2016 our Lord and Savior welcomed home our hero David Ernest Hare Sr. known by all as “Gunny” was born in Camden New Jersey on January 28th 1938 to William and Dorothy Hare. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in April of 1954 at the age of 16. He spent the next 20 years serving his country. During that time he spent 2 combat tours in Vietnam.

In September of 1974 he retired from the United States Marine Corps and moved to Kellogg Idaho where he taught ROTC. It was during this time that he found a new call to service in the fire department. He became the fire chief of Walla Walla County Fire District #5 in June 1982. He later became the battalion chief at Hanford Fire Department. After retiring from the fire service he traveled the world advocating safety and security.

He married the love of his life Sally Mitchell on December 30th 1961. They have three children, son David E. Hare Jr. (wife Michelle) daughter Denise Barcot (husband Brent) and daughter Heather Romero (husband Jesse). As well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren
