David Charles Kappl, age 49, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack in his Richland home on May 3, 2016.  Dave is survived by his two children; Alexis Rose and David Austin Kappl, both of Seattle, Washington; his mother, Kitty Kappl, of Richland, Washington; his sister, Debbie Kappl, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his brother, Michael Kappl, of Redmond, Washington; his sister, Danell Bruce; his nephew, David Anthony Gilles both of Richland, Washington; and his four dogs; Sabastian, Pugglesberry, GiGi, and Beaner Weiner.  Dave was predeceased by his father, Michael Kappl who passed away on March 30, 2010.

David was born December 9, 1966 in Groton, CT, to Michael and Kitty Kappl.  He moved to Richland, WA in grade school where he formed life-long friendships and fell in love with music, beginning guitar lessons at age 7.  He graduated from Hanford High School in 1985 where he enjoyed academics, scouting and interning at Battelle Labs.  He proceeded to study physics at Washington State University. He later moved to the greater Seattle area where he married his former wife, Kristin (Said) Rhodes and raised his children in the city of Sammamish.


As a young man David followed his father’s footsteps working all over the country in the nuclear industry but found his true passion in software development at Microsoft.  He was employed by the tech-giant for over a nineteen years..  Dave was known by his colleagues as innovative, intelligent and fun. Dave had many other passions including screen and playwriting, producing and directing his own movies, creating videos for YouTube, songwriting, and musical performances. Dave will be remembered fondly for his impressive creativity, quirky personality, empathy and love of his dogs and all animals.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 4, at Einan’s at Sunset, 915 By Pass Hwy, Richland, WA 99352. We welcome relatives and friends to join us immediately following for a reception onsite.  In lieu of flowers the family welcomes plants or a memorial contribution to the Benton – Franklin No-Kill Humane Society.
