Jack was born May 8, 1931 in Lewiston, Idaho.  His parents were Russell B. George and Nona (Johnson) George.  Jack’s parents were divorced in 1939 and he, his sister and brother lived with their dad in Lewiston where they attended school until Jack’s freshman year in 1946.  The family moved to a saw mill, purchased by his father, that was about 10 miles north of Orofino, Idaho.  Jack completed his high school education at Orofino High and was a proud “Maniac”.  Jack loved sports and was the first student to letter in all four major sports, (football, baseball, basketball and track) his senior year.

While attending college at Northern Idaho College of Education Jack joined the Idaho National Guard, 155 Howitzer Artillery unit.    In May 1950, during the Korean conflict, the unit was activated and sent to Camp Carson, Colorado for basic training.  Jack was stationed at Camp Baumholder, near Frankford, Germany.  During that time Jack played on the 5^th Army football and track teams.  In 1952 Jack received his honorable discharge from the Army and returned to Lewiston.  In 1960 he enrolled at the University of Idaho and graduated with a degree in  Business Administration/Accounting.

Jack went to work for General Electric in Richland in their Management Training Program in May of 1960 and worked in various management positions, mainly in finance, for 31 years until he retired in 1991.

Jack married Judith Worden in 1953 and was blessed with five children.  They divorced in 1966.   In 1966 Jack and Sandra and her two children met and on January 12, 1968 they were married and became a family of nine.  In November of that year the birth of their son completed the family to 10.

Some of Jack’s happiest times were spent at Priest Lake, Idaho where every August the family rented a house and spent two weeks huckleberry picking, and water skiing.  He often talked of the wonderful camping trips the 10 of them had.  It took a nine passenger station wagon for the family and a U-haul trailer for the camping equipment to accomplish this but it was great!

He was very proud of the fact that while living in Grandview, Wa. in the 1960’s he was a member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce and became involved in putting together the Grid Kid Football Program.  He coached the first Grid Kid Football team in Grandview.  Starting in the early 1970 Jack started coaching Little League Baseball and for the next 17 years coached at the Little League, Pony League and Colt League level.  During these years his teams won several championships, especially the Densow Drugs teams.  Jack often said that the years he spent coaching were some of his most gratifying and happiest memories.

Jack and Sandra retired in 1991 and spent the next 25 years golfing, fishing and traveling all over the United States.

Jack only wanted to be a great husband, father to his 8 children, grandfather to his 16 grandchildren and his 6 great-grandchildren and he succeeded.  He was, and always will be, loved and missed by all.

Jack is survived by Sandra, his wife of 48 years, his daughters, Jennifer Henderson (Theo); Rosemary Buckmeier (Phil); Kathy Rado; Tracie Lorenzen (Ron) his sons Jeff George, Tom George, J.D. George (Dean) and Scott Strickland (Julie).  He is also survived by his sister Geraldine Knapp, half-sisters, Annette Kuehn, and Kathy Thompson and half-brother James Thompson.

Jack was preceded in death by his father Russell George, mother Nona Thompson and brother Gene George.

The family would like to thank the staff at Guardian Angel Homes, Hospice Chaplaincy, and Kadlec Hospital for all their kindness and care in the last few weeks of Jack’s life.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice at The Chaplaincy.

A celebration of Jack’s 85 years will be held at the Activities Center, Sunset Gardens, Richland, on November 19, 2016 from 2 to 4 pm.
