Julianna Evelyn (Evie) Norman

Julianna Evelyn Oslin Norman was born February 2, 1925 in Ferndale, WA.  Her parents were Erick Leander Oslin and Anna Augusta Folke Oslin.  She was the second of five children. They lived on a small farm with her Swedish grandparents.  She attended school in Ferndale and graduated from Ferndale High School.

Evie married Jack Kenneth Tawes in 1943. Shortly after their marriage Jack left to serve his country in the Army.  They had a daughter, Connie Tawes, on March 27, 1944. Evie became a war widow in November of 1944.

Left with a daughter to support, Evie decided to get more job training and attended business school to become a stenographer. After her training she worked for Puget Sound Power and Light.

In 1948 Evie met Wes Norman.  They were married in 1951 and made their home in Bellingham, WA until 1955 when they moved to Moses Lake, WA.  While there, Evie worked at Larson Air Force Base as a medical secretary.  In 1966 they moved to Richland, WA and she went to work as a legal secretary for the Department of Energy. She retired in 1985. After retirement Evie volunteered with AARP as a Regional Representative. She and Wes traveled all over the state meeting with retirement groups.  She also volunteered for NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees). She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Evie loved to dance.  She and Wes went to dances at senior centers all over eastern Washington. They also enjoyed traveling. She was a longtime member of International Toastmistress Clubs. She enjoyed keeping her home spotless.

Evie passed away on October 14, 2016. She is survived by her daughter Connie Sherrill and her husband Charles; a sister, Catherine Lantrip and her husband Harry; sisters-in-law Jackie Oslin, and Dr. Ruth Norman;  and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband’s Jack Tawes and Wes Norman, and her parents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1720 Thayer Dr. in Richland.  All friends are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to Hospice at The Chaplaincy.

The family would like to thank the people at Hospice and at Guardian Angel Homes for the excellent care they gave to Evie during her last days.
