Ronald P. St. George

Ronald Philip St. George, 54, of Freeland, WA died at home on March 29th after a battle with brain cancer.  He was born to Thomas Philip and Mary Jane St. George in Pensacola, FL, and grew up in Minneapolis where his sister Cindra was born. The family then moved to West Richland in 1970, where he went to school in Richland, graduating from Hanford High School in 1980.  Later, he attended Washington State University and graduated in 1984 with a degree in Criminal Justice.

He began his career in Dana Point, California working in law enforcement as a probation officer for the Orange County Probation Department.  In 1990 he accepted a position in Santa Rosa with the Sonoma County Probation Department to work as Chief Probation Officer.  Ron retired from a job he loved and moved back to Washington to be closer to his family in 2003.  He briefly lived in Kennewick before settling in Seattle.  There, Ron volunteered for various organizations, including the Inspire Youth Project, the Dunshee House, and the Bailey-Boushay House.

Ron then moved to Whidbey Island, where he later settled in Freeland in 2009.  He was actively involved with St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church, serving in various capacities, including Usher, Alter Guild, Vice-president of the Parish Governing Board (Senior Warden), Parish Treasurer, and also the Chair of the Mission Sunday Offering committee. Additionally, he was founder of the local branch of Integrity - the National Episcopal Church organization for LGBTQ Christians.  Outside of church, he was treasurer of Ryan's House for homeless youth, and served on the South Whidbey Homeless Coalition board.

He is survived by his beloved mother Mary Jane St. George, sister and brother in-law Cindra and James Bingham, and nieces Maddy and Emma Bingham.  He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Philip St. George.

The family wishes to thank Rev. Nigel J. Taber-Hamilton, and Ron’s many dear friends at St. Augustine’s-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church for their support and friendship. We’d also like to thank Brandon J. Davis for his care, love and service to Ron.

Sunset Memorial Gardens / St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church are in charge of arrangements.  A small graveside service will be held Saturday, April 8th at 2 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens.  A formal service is planned on May 13th at 2 pm at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church in Freeland (Whidbey Island), WA.  Memorial gifts in Ron’s memory can be made to a Hospice Chaplaincy of your choice.
