Dolores Stordahl

05/27/1930 — 05/12/2017

From Richland, WA | Born in Batesland, SD

Dolores Stordahl

With many family members around her Dolores passed peacefully on Friday May 12th at Fieldstone Memory Care, just a few weeks from her 87th birthday. Dolores was born at home in Batesland, South Dakota to Leon and Elizabeth Bennett (Hoffer) on May 27, 1930, and was delivered by her grandfather, Dr. William J. Bennett. She grew up on the farm with her five sisters and brother during the depression. The family moved to Walla Walla, in 1941 and as a young girl Dolores worked in the pea harvest, onion fields and as a candy stripper at St. Mary’s Hospital.  She attended St. Vincent Academy and was active in student government, cheer squad, and voted homecoming queen, graduating in 1948.  After graduation she entered the nursing program, but that was interrupted when she met a handsome young man, Wesley Stordahl.

They were married in October 1949, living in Walla Walla where their first child, of six, was born and then moved to Texas in 1951 while Wes was in the Army. They returned to Walla Walla, where she bore three more children. Next was a move to Spokane for Wes’s electronics schooling, and the addition of two more children. Wes and Dolores opened Tri-City Electronics in 1962, where she worked managing the office affairs. The family moved from Richland to  Benton City in 1965, to enjoy the country life. After raising her family she began nursing school at CBC, graduating in 1978, with an AA and a Nursing Degree. She was honored by her class and gave a humorous and heartfelt commencement speech at the pinning ceremony. Dolores began her nursing career at Kadlec Hospital working from 1979-1996 in a variety of positions.

Dolores was a gracious hostess, having many “fun” functions at her and Wes’s home.  They hosted family birthdays, holidays, family wedding receptions and summers by the pool with family and friends and many nursing staff Christmas parties.  She loved to travel with Wes, family and friends going to Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, Holy Land and Germany to name a few.  Dolores and her son Richard took many road trips stopping along the way at a casino or two. She went on several “sister” trips and by all reports it was always a great time of reminiscing, playing cards and much laughter.

Dolores was devoted Christian and active member of the Richland Alliance Church, teaching Sunday School, Pioneer Girls, and involved with Women Missions, making lifelong friends along the way.

After retiring from Kadlec, Dolores kept busy, she was a volunteer at Grace Clinic, she enjoyed walking at the Mall, earning the 100-mile pin. She enjoyed playing bridge in Walla Walla on Tuesdays with her sister Crystal and a friendly group of gals.

Dolores had the quickest, funniest wit, she made every gathering fun and had the sweetest heart. She loved the Lord, and her family was everything to her. She was a loving  sister, mother, grandmother, amazing cook, seamstress and Nurse.

Dolores is survived by, and will be greatly missed, by her sons Wayne (Kathy), Mike (Carol), daughters Patricia, and Deborah (Tim). Sisters Joyce, Crystal and brother William. 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Preceding her to Heaven are her husband Wes, sons Steven, Richard, and great-granddaughter Rosie, her parents Elizabeth and Leon, sisters Mariann, Patty and Coralie.

Celebration of Dolores's life will be held at Einan’s Event Center, on Monday May 22nd at 2:00 p.m.  Flowers can be sent to directly Einan's or if preferred a donation could be made to the Grace Clinic 800 W Canal Dr., Kennewick WA  99336 in memory of Dolores Stordahl.

  • I had the opportunity to meet Dolores years ago, and although much time has passed, I will never forget her kind, loving personality that truly lit up a room. She was the best hostess, ensuring that as soon as I entered her home I felt welcomed and loved. Although our time spent together was brief, I feel blessed to have had that time together. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of this wonderful woman- may her benevolent spirit live on!

  • Mother,
You filled my days with rainbow lights,
    Fairytales and sweet dream nights,
A kiss to wipe away my tears,
    Gingerbread to ease my fears,
You gave the gift of life to me,
And then in love you set me free,
I thank you for your tender care,
for deep warm hugs and being there,
I hope that when you think of me,
A part of you you’ll always see.
Mama, enjoy your dances with family and basking in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. We will see you soon! FOREVER IN MY HEART AND LOVED BEYOND MEASURE!!

  • I was a part of the Stordahl family for over 20 years. I was so fortunate to have been a part of such a wonderful family. Wes and Delores were both the most kind and generous people you will ever know. I will always remember you both and I am eternally thankful for all you did for me! All my love and prayer.
