Heber Dale Collins
Dr. H. Dale Collins went to be with his Lord and Savior on a beautiful day while hiking on Mt. Rainier. He was at one of his favorite locations on the sunrise side of Rainier with the love of his life, Carol, his wife of thirty years.
Dale was born May 18, 1934 in Seattle to Frank and Evelyn Collins. Dale moved to Richland in 1947, and later graduated from Richland High School. He served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. After his military service, he attended Washington State University and Oregon State University and earned his undergraduate and Doctorate degrees.
He was a distinguished senior scientist for Sandia Corporation, General Electric, Holosonics, and the Pacific National Northwest Laboratory. He was a pioneer in the development and application of acoustical holography, obtaining many patents and scientific awards.
Dale was a warm, kind, and loving husband and father,and grandfather. He is remembered for his generosity, his passion for life and his towering character. He was a great study of physics, chemistry and the scriptures. He saw the majesty of physics and science in the scriptures. He taught at the university level, and was a Sunday School teacher for twenty-three years. He is remembered as a beloved mentor of many young people at Richland Assembly. Above all, Jesus Christ was his constant companion and inspiration in both his personal and professional life.
Dale is survived by his beloved wife Carol; his four children by his previous marriage to Kathryn Collins; Patricia Vannelli and husband Gino; Steve Collins; David Collins; William and wife Debra Collins; his brother Frank and wife Pat; his brother Phillip and wife Lois; sister Judy Phillips and husband Richard; sister Terry Strege and husband John. His grandchildren are Christine Dickerson; Richard Schneider; Gary, Haley and Ariel Collins; Nick and Wade Collins; and Anton Vannelli. Dale's great grandchildren are Kendra and Taylor Dickerson; and Issac Schneider .
Dale loved all of his family deeply. He believed that all people were called to be a part of the family of God. The desire of his heart was for them to know the same Lord and Savior that walked with him for so many years. A celebration of Dale's life will be held at RicWand Assembly of God on Tuesday, September 11 at 11 :00 am followed by a grave side service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
