Pauline Hannah Kester

Pauline Kester was born to John and Susie Fallon in Albia, Iowa, July 23, 1918, and died of cancer at her home in Richland, Monday, October 22, 2001, at age 83. After finishing college and teaching in Iowa, Pauline and her mother came to Richland in May of ‘44. Pauline married Jack Kester, October 11, 1946, and they raised their family in Richland where Pauline continued to reside after Jack died in 1980.

Pauline loved God as was evidenced in her life by her strong faith that she proclaimed. She beautifully shared God’s love with so many and was an example of a true servant. Pauline enjoyed worshipping God at every opportunity with friends she dearly loved at the Richland Church of Christ and elsewhere, and looked forward to beginning the rest of eternity with her Lord.

Survivors include 2 children, Barbara Moffett of Richland and John Kester of Newberg, Oregon, as well as 3 grandchildren, Molly Moffett of Richland, Leigh Kester of Newberg, Oregon and Ben Kester of Portland, Oregon. Pauline was very active and involved in the lives of her family while caring and loving them deeply, having special relationships with each one.

Viewing will be provided at Einan’s Funeral Home, Thursday and Friday, October 25-26, 9:00am – 8:00pm.

Memorial services will be held at the Richland Church of Christ Saturday, October 27, 10:00am, to honor and celebrate her life by which we were blessed. Burial services will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens next to Einan’s.

  • Sister Kester had to be one of nicest ladies I knew. She always had kind words to say. She was like another grandmother and I enjoyed my visits with her. We could always sit around and laugh about anything and I always enjoyed her stories. And I can’t forget the many road trips to Oregon to see my buddies Ben and Leigh. She will be dearly missed.

  • Pauline was a dear person that loved life and always a smile on her face. We spent some enjoyable times with her on her return trips to Iowa. But since she got her computer I have spent many enjoyable hours sharing happy times combined with jokes and giggles. She was a great lady and we are very proud she touched our lives and shared herself with our family.

Pauline has always been there to listen and give our family strength, especially during our parents long painful struggle before meeting their God. Our family will remember Pauline for the LOVE she always had when we would call. Pauline would pray and talk with us at any given time and place. Our family will never forget such a beautiful lady! We love you Pauline and will never forget our time together.]

  • To the family of Pauline Kester:

Pauline was a wonderful friend to me and my family. She taught me in Sunday School and if I was lucky, I got to sit beside her in church as a child. Her love for us all will live in our hearts always. We are so sad to see her leave us. God speed dear Pauline. Love to all of you. Yvonne Houser and Gladys Graham

  • There are no sympathies to share for a lady that deserved to be where all of us belong, there is only joy. Bitter joy because we say goodbye for a time, but joy because she will experience all that we have only dreamt about. God bless, you the family of this good friend and hero of faith of mine. May you in these times of mourning find smiles spreading across your face in full knowledge that Pauline while she lived was a testament to our Savior’s love, and now in passing is a testament to faith in God untill the last days. I will surly miss her, but look forward to seeing her again.

  • Pauline was a beautiful lady that enriched my life through her genuine smile and positive attitude, even through times of pain. I helped Pauline on the computer, of which she expressed much gratitude. Little did she know I was receiving as much from her as she from me. I will miss her.

  • Pauline has been an inspiration to me and the rest of the Team Battelle group who work teaching the seniors at Alterra how to use the computer. Pauline was one of our best “students” and has become a friend to each of us. I will miss seeing her beautiful smile and hearing her quiet voice.

  • From day one; (back in October of 1958), I was accepted by Pauline and the Kester family with love and warmth and treated like a member of their extended family. I will always have fond memories of gathering for the holidays and warm summer evenings of eating homemade ice cream .

I will always remember Aunt Pauline as being cheery, talented as an artist, and most importantly having a strong Christian faith she shared with others.

  • Pauline was a precious lady who modeled her Christian faith in an outstanding way. She was special to our girls when we lived in Richland because they were away from their grandparents and she became a ‘substitute.’ We are thankful that she is no longer fighting cancer and share your hope of seeing her again in the future! • The first thing that came to my mind at Paulines, memorial, Saturday is from the 80’s. It was one of the few times in my life that I was not working outside the home. Your Dad was battling cancer. In fact, this memory is interwoven between Pauline and Jack; but isn’t that the story of their life?

I had the good fortune of drawing Pauline’s name for my Secret Sister that year at church. Early on, your dad thought he had discovered the identity of the Secret Sister and confronted me with his suspicions. Very jokingly, I indicated that he (like everyone else) would have to wait until the year end to find out. Just then, I looked straight into his face and for the first time I saw a look that said “But, what if I’m not here then”. Of course I confessed. It was so neat to have him as my “Partner in Crime”. Between Jack & I we had fun with the program. They challenged me, I’ll say that!

Other memories include WFC Bazaars (candles, bulletin boards, aprons, ceramics, jewelry). Pauline teaching me how to teach Sunday School. Many Sunday or Wednesday evenings after church at Bob’s Big Boy on GW Way – what great sundae’s and greater fellowship. Then there was the year, she surprised Bob & I with a party on our 25th wedding anniversary; and I (rather the Secret Sister) was surprising her with a visit from Santa Clause. She was surprised!

Like all of her friends and family, I see her today with Jack and Susie along with many other loved ones and Christians enjoying their new life.

    All our Love, Marlene.

  • As I think of Pauline, and the times my family and I spent with both her and Jack, what comes to mind most is the warmth and gentleness of their ways. I can not remember either of them ever having uttered anything other than kind words, thoughts and wishes about and for others.

They truly epitimize the highest degree of morals, christianity and good will towards all.

My thoughts and prayers are with not only the family, but everyone who both Pauline and Jack touched during their lives.

The world was a better place because they were in it and they were examples to us all on how to live.

  • I have so many mmemories of Pauline starting from youth rally days. I’m so glad we got to spend more time with her when we lived in Richland 1976-1980. She helped give a shower for our first child, Lynette. She was a wonderful christian woman, so positive and encouraging. Her Christian life was a role mode for all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Lynn and Patti Weber

My sympathy goes out to you and your loved ones. I will always remember your Mom as a very pretty, sweet lady. I remember the visits to Lewistown and to the farm at Ware. I hope that you are accepting all the love that has been shown to you and your family these past days. This will help you through the weeks and years to come and when those times come when you need a boost you can recall all the wonderful friends and relatives that loved her so. • I have such wonderful memories of Pauline from when I was a small girl and she was my Sunday School Teacher to when I was a teenager, and then a young adult newly married. She was such an example for me growing up of what a Christian woman should be. I am so thankful to have known her and to have my life touched by her. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and her Church family as well.

  • Mimi was like a second grandmother to me. Living so far away from all of my relatives, Mimi was always there. She has truly touched me, and there will always be a special place for her in my heart. I am very thankful to Molly for sharing such a wonderful grandmother with me.

  • Dear Barbara and John & your families: I’ve praised God through the years for your wonderful mother. In her He gave me a second “mother”–one who lived nearby, one whom I could ask to pray for me when problems seemed too large, one whose example in living for the Lord blessed my life so richly, one to whom I could talk things over with and ask advice. Your beautiful mother was always an example of our wonderful Lord. She taught so many classes when I was a young woman and helped me grow in the Lord. I know you will miss her deeply, as will the church. Because of her close walk with Christ, she always encouraged others and had God’s words to share with us. What a treasure for me to have known her 38 years! I wish I could give you each a hug. I love you. Jeannie

  • We offer my condolences on your loss of Pauline. She was one of my favorite cousins. I will always remember a trip my brother Keith and I took with Uncle Bernard and Gramma Jennie to Richland. It was our first introduction to the apricots and cherries. Also to banana popcicles for a nickel and yes the tokens that Washington used, maybe as a sales tax.

We always enjoyed Pauline and Jack’s visits to Montana and Jack helping with harvest.

Since I am a mechanic I was fascinated with Aunt Susie’s Hudson car with electric shift and if that didn’t work, you could take a metal rod out of storage and put it in the top of the transmission and it was a stick shift! Wow!

Our deepest sympathies and we will remember her forever.
