GLENN LEROY CAMERON Richland, Wash.

On Sunday, January 6, 2002, Glenn Cameron passed from this world while his children stood by his side. Glenn was born on August 29, 1919 in Waterloo, Iowa, to Samuel James and Mary Agnes nee Bebee. The oldest of five children, he helped support his mother and siblings by working at various odd jobs. At age 20, while working road construction near Leon, Iowa, he walked into a café and met the woman who would become his wife for 51 years. Glenn married Overa Kathryn nee Killand in Branson, Missouri, on June 3, 1941. Inducted on July 15, 1941, Glenn served his country in WWII in the U.S. Army’s 36th Combat Engineers, fighting in the European Theatre of Operations in eight major battles and five amphibious landings, earning a Silver Star. He was discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant on September 14, 1945. Throughout the years since the war, Glenn maintained a friendship with his war buddy, Les Worrell of White City, Kansas. Following the war, Glenn and Overa lived in Iowa and he worked at John Deere in quality control. In 1953, they followed his wife’s family out to the Tri-Cities. Glenn became a Millwright out of Local 1699 and was always very proud of being a union craftsman. Work took him around the world on construction jobs. He installed and maintained turbines on many dams in the Northwest and built Nike Missile Sites. Glenn was a craftsman in the fullest sense of the word.
In July 1955, Glenn and Overa had a daughter, Kathleen Jane and in December 1959, they had a son, Richard John. Glenn was a wonderful and loving father who helped create a caring and nurturing home. Throughout his life, he was a strong, quiet man who led by example and lived his faith. He was a member of Richland Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years.
Glenn is survived by his daughter Kathleen Jane; her husband Gary; their three children Jill, Jack, and Sally Nieborsky; his son Richard John and his child Mac Cameron; his siblings Margaret Brackett, Mary Lou Norte and Leonard Cameron, all of Iowa. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother Eugene. Glenn was loved by many relatives from his wife’s family. During the past five years as he battled colon cancer, bladder cancer, and growing old, Glenn was blessed to have been cared for by several wonderful physicians including Dr. Fredrick Bowers; Dr. D. E. Ballman; and Dr. John Medica. In the latter part of his life, Glenn formed several special friendships with employees and patrons of Kadlec Hospital’s Garden Café. He very much appreciated their friendship and support. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 10, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Richland Lutheran Church. Viewing will held Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Einan’s Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Tri-Cities Hospice 2108 W. Entiat Ave., Kennewick, WA 99336 in memory of the terrific service previously provided to Glenn’s wife.
