From Richland, WA, US | Born in Crook County, Oregon
Wallace Mason Hunt
Wallace Mason Hunt, born to a pioneering family in Crook County Lower Bridge, Oregon, on August 15, 1913, died suddenly at his home in Richland on March 17, 2002. Wallys 88 years were marked by devotion to family, loyalty to friends, and service to others. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout, graduated from North Central High School in Spokane and attended Whitworth College there. He earned a degree in Business Administration from Washington State College in 1937, where he was house manager and member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. On June 24, 1939, Wally married Barbara Erwin at her familys home in Prescott, Washington, a lifetime love that celebrated 62 years together. Wally served the Navy during World War II as paymaster and supply officer with the 53rd Seabees Battalion, Marianna Islands. He came to Hanford in 1947 as a buyer for General Electric. At his retirement in 1975 from Rockwell Hanford as Manager, Purchasing and Stores, his 175 employees served a Hanford employment population of 8,000. In 1953, Wally and a small group of others founded General Electric Supervisors Association GESA, envisioning a credit union for mutual financial assistance, with their first ''business location'' a shoebox for accounts. Wally was a 45-year member and past president of Richland Kiwanis Club. His years of perfect attendance and the many members he recruited reflect his enthusiasm for community service through Kiwanis. Wally and Barbara were long-time members of West Side Church, where he served as an elder. Wally was an avid golfer, and after retirement he and Barbara enjoyed traveling in the Southwest, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Of his many professional and personal accomplishments, though, Wally was most proud of his family, giving each one of them unconditional love and encouragement. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; children, Tom Hunt and wife, Karen, Pam Cadd and husband, Tedd; grandchildren, Damon Hunt and wife, Alex, Jason Hunt and wife, Lisa, Brian Dymalski, Sara Hoenes, Tom Cadd and wife, Anna, and Amy Cadd; great-grandchildren, Robin, Daniel, Robert and Lauren Hunt; and sisters, Elaine Brice and Alice Martin. He was predeceased by sister Eunice Pammler and grandson Daniel A. Hunt. His circle of love included many other family members and friends, including neighbors and staff at Alterra. He will be profoundly missed. A memorial service will be held at West Side Church, 615 Wright, Richland, on Saturday, March 23, at 2:00 pm, with reception following. Visitation will be Friday, March 22, 4:00-8:00 pm and Saturday, March 23, 11:00-12:30 pm at Einan's. Memorial contributions may be made to Richland Kiwanis Foundation, P.O. Box 1622, Richland, WA 99352.
Dear Barbara,
It was so very thoughtful of your to share the news with us about Wally. Although our friendship was comparatively brief, it was no less than treasured by the both of us.
Rarely are newcomers, as we were, so well received in their new community. You and Wally made us feel like we had always been there. We also remember with fondness, the striking paint above the fireplace in your Clipper Ridge home. Even more, we remember how the two of you shared your love, an example that we have tried to follow.
Your loss is our loss. We take great consolation from the knowledge that Wally has earned his rest in a much better place.
Our love and our thoughts are with you Barb.

Wally Hunt was a positive presence in my youth at West Side Church. I will always remember his serene, smiling face. His death, the same week as my father, Raymond’s, is especially poignant. May his family be embraced by love and caring during this time. Warmest regards, Patricia Keeney
We are sad to learn of Wally’s passing. I played the piano at Alterra for the past several years. Wally always brought Barbara down on the evenings I played. He always came up and thanked me at the end of the evening. He was a perfect gentleman all his life. He will be missed.

Dear Pam, Tedd and family,
I was sorry to hear your father Wally passed away. These times are hard but the Lord will carry us through. It is good to know he is in a better place. My prayers are for all of you.
To my great partner,
I will miss you and I will always cherish your memories that you gave me over the years. I am looking foward to meeting you on the 19th hole to play a round of golf.
With our love from your grandson and wife,
Tom and Anna
Wally was a great neighbor and very good friend for many years. We will always remember him as a truly fine gentleman whose concern for others was unsurpassed.
It was through Wally that I became a member of Kiwanis, and it was with great pleasure I was able to accompany him to the Wednesday meetings. He will be greatly missed.
I don’t know where to begin: Wally was a great example of a happily married husband. If you approuched him for a hug, he saves those for his sweet Barbara but would love to give you a strong hand shake with a smile and complament. A very gracious and distinguished person. He loved talking about his precious family. The other day, I asked about his grand daughter who was very ill. He called her a jewell and she was doing really well. He wished that he could go back in time, and would love to be her student in her class at Prosser, WA. taught by the BEST: That is so Wally!!! I will miss this awesome man and his positive ways. It will take some time to realize that our Wally is with our Lord. I promise to take good care of his Queen Barbara, which the two of them became officially king and queen of Alterra on Valentines Day voted by the employee’s and residents. Love and prayers for all his family and friends and God bless, Kathi Stoltz
I am writing this for Ralph. Wally, my older brother De and I were in Eagle Scouts, Troup #1 with Fred Jones as Scout Master. We all graduated from North Central High School. Sorry to hear of Wallys passing and thank you for letting us know. De passed away in 1999, just a month after I had a stroke myself, although I have recuperated quite well, I wish you the best Barbara. I was born August 16, 1912 so our birthdays were close. Thanks again,Mary & Ralph Dearborn
Dear Barbara, I hada written something that I somehow lost and so don’t know if it got through or not. I am so sorry that Wally is gone and glad that you have your family. I went to Cecil Carpenter’s memorial service a few weeks ago. He had been in a nursing home for about four years and didn’t have very good quality of life. So you are right to appreciate that Wally didn’t have to suffer or be helpless.
My thoughts are with you. Love, Mary I remember so well when you and Wally first dated and fell in love–you were an ideal couple.
We offer our sincere sympathy. Wally was a true gentleman, and will be missed.
