Norman Cranston Davis

Norman Cranston Davis, 73, passed away August 8, 2002, at his home in Richland. He was born in Eldorado, Oklahoma to Marion and Mae Davis on January 18, 1929.

After a stint in the Air Force, Norman married the love of his life, Billie Jean, on March 11, 1950 and moved to Richland where he was employed by General Electric and Battelle for forty-one years, retiring in 1991.

Norman played many roles in his life, but he was the most loving of husbands, the most understanding of fathers, the wisest of grandfathers and most recently, the easiest pushover of great grandfathers. He was a hero to all of us and will forever live in our hearts.

Norman is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Billie Jean of Richland; daughter Sheila and husband Steve Galloway of Richland; son Mike and wife Bonnie of Richland; daughter Karen and husband Joe Scheffer of Spokane; son Kent and wife Brenda of Highland Ranch, Colorado; son Keith and wife Jennifer of West Richland; and daughter-in-law Jeanne Davis of Richland; thirteen grandchildren; Heidi and husband Chris Mortensen, Erin Galloway, Sarah Davis, Nikki Davis, Rick Davis, Sean Galloway, Bethany Scheffer, Justin Blackford Davis, Vance Davis, Caroline Davis, Rebekah Scheffer, Stephanie Davis, Zakary Davis; great grandchild Kyler Rose “Teddy Bear” Mortensen; sisters Mildred Gore of Prairie Grove, AR, Mary Hamann of Santa Barbara, CA, Marty Davis of Farmington, AR, and Maxine Davis of DeQueen, AR.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; son Stephen; and granddaughters Kelly Galloway and Julieann Davis.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday August 14, 2002 at Einan’s Funeral Home.

  • Dear Jeannie Davis,

I am sorry to read of your father-in-law’s death. You spoke so highly of him. I hope you have lots of fond memories of him to call upon for the future.

I am busy getting ready for school, and my 5-year-old son, Michael, starts Kindergarted in 3 weeks. My, how the time flies. I think of you with kindness and send my best to you and the Davis family.

  • Dear Jeannie and family of Norm Davis, I was very sorry to hear of Norm’s passing. Sounds like it will be a huge void to the whole family & I’m sorry for your loss. Though I haven’t seen any of you since the night the twins were born, I think of you often. Will pray for God to help all of you get through this loss.

  • Norm Davis Family,

I was sorry to hear about your loss. The last time I talked with Norm was at one of the 306 building lunches at Las Margaritas in Richland. He was in a good mood with his usual cheery hello.

I worked with Norm for several years while at Battelle. He was professional in his work and I found I could trust Norm to deliver when the schedule or process became difficult. He was, as they say in South Dakota, a top hand! I would also like to state that he was a true gentleman in his interactions with other staff.

    Norm will be missed greatly.
