Dear family and friends of Gale Frost,
I am so sorry for your loss. I must tell you that I have lost a true friend as well. Gale was a good, hardworking, honest man, and I am proud to say that he was my friend. I worked with Gale at Walt Slipp Tires nearly 20 years ago for a period of 3 1/2 years. I was just a young kid in my senior year of high school when I started working part-time at Walt Slipp Tires. After graduating from Pasco High School in 1981, I continued working at Walt Slipp Tires on a part-time basis while going to Columbia Basin Community College. After getting a two year degree from CBC, I got married and began working full-time at Walt Slipp Tires. Gale and I spent a lot of “quality” time talking in between the scream of the tire buffing machines and at our breaks where we talked about hunting and fishing, boxing and other sporting events. Gale and I also went on several hunting and fishing trips together over the years. It was during this time that we formed a friendship that has lasted to this day. While I am certain that Gale knew I was his friend, he probably never really knew what an impact he had on my life. While it is too late to tell Gale now and how I wish I could, it is important for me to tell you, his family and friends, how he touched my life. After I started working full-time at Walt Slipp Tires, Gale subtly and consistently encouraged me to pursue my education and to be wary of staying too long at the tire shop at the risk of allowing my dreams and goals to be concealed or obscured by the realities of work life and family responsibilities. Looking back now, I see that Gale was just like the father eagle gently nudging his baby eaglet from the nest to test its wings and to expand it horizons. In part due to Gale’s encouragement and wisdom, I left Walt Slipp Tires in 1984 to attend the University of Washington where I obtained my business degree. I later went on to obtain a law degree in 1992 from Gonzaga University School of Law. I am now a partner at Inslee Best Doezie & Ryder, a law firm of about 30 attorneys located in Bellevue, Washington. I attribute much of my success today to the friendship and guidance Gale gave to me during the short time I got to work with him. I am grateful for having had an opportunity to know Gale. While Gale and I have kept in touch over the years only by sending Christmas cards, I always looked forward to receiving his card because it reminded me of my life’s journey and how lucky I was to come to know such a special person. I will truly miss my friend Gale. Lost, but never forgotten.
