Kaye Rice

Kaye Rice, 78, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her, was carried by angels to her resting place January 7, 2003 from her home in Richland. Her loving family surrounded Kaye at the time of her peaceful passing.
Kaye was born in Inglewood, California on Jan. 16 1924 to James and Lilian Ayotte. She received a nursing degree in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada.

After beginning a nursing career in the Seattle area in the 1940s, Kaye journeyed in 1949 with her new husband, Rudy to begin a family in Richland and has lived there since. Kaye continued her nursing at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital caring for the newborns she so loved, but her priority soon became the raising of her five children: Jerry, Randy, Jim, Cathy and Leon. Her home became a warm, safe gathering place for their childhood friends, and she was loved by children of all ages. Kaye did volunteer nursing work at Christ the King school and was a lifelong member of Christ the King parish.

As her adult children’s lives took them to many different places and they began presenting her with grandchildren, Kaye’s warm, loving caring spirit spread. Kaye leaves behind a wide circle of friends, family and extended family. Kaye was preceded in death by her parents James and Lilian, her brother Jim and sisters Pat and Irene. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rudy; son Jerry, his wife Linda and son Nathan of Seattle; son Randy, his wife Tina and their children Brett, Jeff and Rachel of Camas,WA; son Jim, his wife Dawn and their children Jessica and Adam of Mt. Rainier, MD; daughter Cathy, her husband Russ Roe and their children Jasmine, Nicole and Kaylee of Bothell,WA ; son Leon, his wife Robin and their children, Brock, Max and baby on the way of Spokane; sister Gerry, her husband Perry Billingsley of Vancouver, BC; cousin Bonnie, her husband Jeff and their children Madeline and Jack of Snohomish,WA.

Funeral services will be held 12pm, Saturday, January 11th at Christ the King Church. An open reception for friends and family to celebrate Kaye’s life will follow at Hill’s Community Clubhouse, 106 Skyline Drive in Richland.

The family requests memorial contributions in honor of Kaye’s life be made to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice in lieu of flowers.
