R.B. DUSTY GUENTHER Our father Dusty passed away at home last Friday. He was born to Helena and Gustav Guenther August 31, 1926 at Fort Riley, Kansas. His father was in the military, and they travelled a lot around the country and the world. After finishing his secondary education at the New Mexico Military Institute, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Japan. This was followed by graduation from UCLA with a degree in Chemical Engineering, where he was also active on the swim team. With degree in hand, he moved to Pasco in 1950 to work on the Hanford Project. He met Opal at Hanford and they were married August 26, 1951. They settled in Richland shortly afterward. He worked for a long string of prime contractors at Hanford, retiring from Westinghouse in 1988. With Opal, he was a founding donor of Kadlec Hospital. He was also a member of the Hanford Retirees Association, and donated blood frequently.
He was preceded in death by Opal in 1992.
Survivors include his sons Brad of Pullman, and Mark of Kennewick; a daughter Kim of Richland, also his three grandsons Thomas of Cheney, and Brian and Gus of Bellingham.
He enjoyed family time together, UCLA football, and watersports.
He was always there for his family, and will be missed by all.
A memorial celebration of Dustys life will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, January 9th at Einans Funeral Home. Inurnment ceremony will take place at 1:00 in the afternoon at Prosser cemetary. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
Brad, Mark and Kim,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your families at this time. Although I have lost touch with you over the years, I have very special memories of holidays as part of the family.
