Larry W. Guffey
11/11/1942 — 03/28/2003
From West, Richland, WA, US | Born in Texarkana, Arkansas
Larry W. Guffey
Larry W. Guffey, Sr., age 60, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, March 28, 2003 at his home in West Richland, WA. Larry was born in Texarkana, AR, one of thirteen children. In 1965 he married Kathryn Marie Law. While starting their family, Larry completed his apprenticeship and began a 40-year career in plumbing and pipefitting. This career led him to the Hanford Site in 1981, where Larry worked for 20 years as a pipefitter until retirement from Fluor Daniel Hanford in October 2002. Larry was a loving husband. He was a patient, respected, and caring father. But of all the roles that Larry fulfilled so well, he was in his glory as a grandfather. When his cancer was first diagnosed, Larrys first building project was a playground for the grandkids where he spent countless hours with them. Each child could count on Papa for a trip to Dairy Queen, a slurpee from 7-11, chocolate milk, and a popsicle any day of the year. Storytelling was probably the most appreciated of his many talents. Larrys stories have made friends and family alike laugh and feel like part of the family. His infectious giggle made it impossible not to laugh along. Larry was preceded in death by parents, Otis & Clida Guffey; brothers Otis Jr. Bud, Clyde, Claude; sisters Agnes Guffey, Cybil Hines, Minnie Teel. He is survived by wife, Kathryn. His children and their families: Larry, Jr. son & Heather, Jacob, Courtney, Garrett Guffey; Tina daughter & Kevin, Camren Bleiler; Kristi daughter & Brady, Kelsey, Olivia Wenrich; Janna daughter and fiancé Mark Dean. His siblings and their families: Polly Mooneyham, Jimmy Guffey, Dewey Guffey, Jewell Mathis, Jerald Guffey, and Caroline McGonigal. Larry was also blessed with an abundance of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-greats. During the time of his illness, the Guffey Family has been incredibly blessed by the generosity and prayers of our friends and family--too many to list. Tri City Chaplaincy / Hospice provided unequivocal service and support to the entire family. Hospice nurse, Taylor Kittleman, will forever have a special place in our hearts as well as having two of Larrys turtles. Viewing will be held on Monday, March 31 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m at Einans Funeral Home in Richland. Graveside service for friends and family will be Tuesday, April 1 at 11 a.m at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial service in celebration Larrys life will be Tuesday, April 1 at 1p at First Baptist Church of Richland, located off of Wright Street. You may express your thoughts and memories in the Online Guestbook at www.einansfuneralhome.com under the obituary section.
Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Larry was a great person whom I will always remember. He was a “softball” dad who always made me feel important when he went to the games. I thank him and his family for having me over for their annual family get together. That was very important to me. I will miss him, but I know he will be watching his kids and grandkids play ball up in heaven. I just hope they let him light up his stogie.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Larry’s family. Larry was definitely blessed by a wonderful, loving and caring family. A legacy he leaves for us all.
Larry, Heather and Family, Our prayer for you, Love and Comfort at this most difficult time. Sincerely, Doreen and Roger

If words could heal
I’d speak a thousand
If hugs could take away the pain
I’d hug you once and once again
The best that I can do for you
Is listen with my heart
Hear the joy of memories,
and most of all….
Remember you to the God of all comfort.
Love,
Jayme

Kathryn and all,
I know Larry is with the Lord, and feeling fine now. I would like to share my memories with you all. I remember all the softball games when he coached and Tina played first base for the ladies. I remember when Bubba played second base for the guys. He was always so proud of his children. His easy going manner and gentle spirit have always been an inspiration and role model to me. In my older grandpa years, I’m trying to be more like he was. Some times at church we’d talk about work in the area or the weather, and most of the time he was very agreeable. You really had to be a close friend for him to disagree with anything you said. I remember the singing times and the “hot” pepper incident with me and Eddie Emerson. I remember Larry taking me out to the “Den” and showing me all his baseball memorabilia, especially the cards. I remember when the playground first went up and him walking at home or at church with his one of his grandkids. I shared my favorite saying about grandkids with him, and he responded with his little chuckle and said, “Your right about that.” What I had said was a tongue in cheek saying, “If I knew grandkids were going to be this much fun, I would have had them first!”
I was really hoping to get back to Tri Cities in time to visit before he went home, but just having these memories to carry me through will have to do. Love you all. Dale McNally

My dear ones I am so sorry for your loss.
The only way we can make this is to know that Larry
is in Heaven with so many that love him and with Jesus.
We will all be together again soon.
You are all in my prayers and thoughts.
May God give you comfort and strength during this

Dear Kristi –
What a nice final update you sent to fellow co-workers here at Battelle. Your words touched my heart and I am deeply sorry for your loss. However, I do agree, he is in a perfect place with a perfect body. Your devotion to your father is truly a reflection of the person he was. I commend you on the stance you have taken the past few months and your example you have set for us here at Battelle. You have been there for your family and realized that work means nothing when family needs arise. God Bless You.
He will always have a special place in my heart as my “favorite Father-In-Law”, and I will always cherish the fact that I was his “favorite Daughter-In-Law”. I will truely miss him, but I will remember how much he loved Bubba, me and our children, he showed us everyday. Heather
I want to thank all of our family and friends. Even when you know it’s coming, it’s still a hard pill to swallow. The support that we’ve had, from every direction, has been a true blessing.
Thank you. Bubba.
