Mark Z. Turner

Mark Z. Turner, 43, of West Richland, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice House after a long struggle with cancer. He was born August 23, 1959, in Inglewood, California and lived in the Tri-Cities since 1987 where he met Anna Yencopal. They were married May 1, 1993.

While in high school, Mark started working at Albertson’s as a box boy. After work the first day, he went home and told his parents he would be the youngest manager ever. He was the store director in Richland for 10 years. He worked for Albertson’s over 25 years and loved helping the customers in anyway he could. He loved his job. He also enjoyed classic cars. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

A wonderful son, brother and husband, Mark is survived by his wife, Anna; parents, Ted and Betty Turner; sister, Christine; brother, David; 2 nephews, Michael and D.J.; a niece, Andrea; and his numerous dogs that he loved and cared for like children.

Mark was a quiet person, a wonderful listener and loyal to his many friends. He had such respect for those he worked with and especially for the Albertson’s company.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Einan’s Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses or to the Humane Society, 8620 W. Gage Blvd. Kennewick, WA 99336.

He always saw the “Glass as half full” rather than “Half empty” and his positive attitude and determination was contagious.

  • I knew Mark many years ago when my husband and I were his neighbors in an apartment complex in Richland. Mark was always friendly and courteous with a ready smile. While shopping at Albertson’s, I could count on him to be available to help or just to chat. Mark was a truly kind person who, unknowingly, touched many lives, and although I hadn’t seen him in a number of years, I am so saddened by his passing. I lost my husband at this time last year. He, too, was young 41, and had been ill for quite some time. As I struggle with my own grief on the anniversary of my husband’s death, my heart goes out to Anna. Although we have not met, we have much in common. Anna, I invite you to call on me, since I have learned over the course of this past year that comfort can come from talking to strangers as well as to friends and family. I’m so very sorry yours and Mark’s life together was cut short. I’ll keep you in my thoughts.

  • Mark is a great loss to us. Mark was one of my best friends during high school, our three years and several years after. I last had the priveledge of seeing him at our twenty year High school runion. He was as encouraging and welcoming as ever. I also had the previledge of meeting his wife at that time. Nothing was more fun then evenings out with Mark in the old Trans Am.

I will keep his family and wife in prayer and thoughts of the time shared with him forever.

  • I had the priviledge to provide nursing care to Mark in the last three years of his life. He was courageous and precious and I shall miss him greatly. His love for Anna was inspirational and her love for him was the most gentle and caring I have ever seen. Mark was never depressed nor discouraged. Each treatment was a cure and he fought valiantly every day of his life. I count myself as fortunate to have had his life brush mine, and I shall never forget him. To Anna, you provided for Mark a safe haven in which to spend his days and nights and gave to him the will to go on in the face of trials and tribulations. Take care of yourself, Anna, and remember that you have had the greatest gift of all, the love of a man who cared more about you than he did about himself. Bless you.

  • Anna,

Marks’ funeral was beautiful today, and what perfect weather with the sunshining. I kept remembering what he said to me one day ” Patti, I like it when I tell you to do something and you always follow through” With working in the bakery and working so close with him, I really worked hard to make him proud of the bakery. He didn’t even have to think about me becoming a checker when I asked him, and knew that I wanted to wait until he had a 40 hour checking spot. Well, it happened a couple months later. I sure missed him when he left the store. Of course I also remember helping you two with the wedding cake order and delivering it. That was so much fun !!

Please feel free to e-mail me anytime as I would love to stay in touch.

    God Bless you, Patti Miller
