To the Family of John Ray,
I’m writing behalf of my dad, Pete. He shared a dining table with John while he was living at Alterra. They had a great time talking about sports and speculating on the whys and wherefors of the other residents. Father was sadden by John’s sudden passing but relieved that he did not suffer a long, painful illness as they had dicussed the “best” way to go…quickly! That may seem an odd thing to relate to you but it is how many of the older folks feel and you can take comfort in John not having suffered a long stay in a hospital or nursing facility. He went the way he wished.
May you take comfort in the many happy memories you have gathered over the years.
Sincerely,
Mary and Pete
John, the gardener, and I have
chatted so many times over the
fence as he took his daily walks wearing a cap and taking
produce to friends. He had a
kind spirit and will be missed. When he moved to Altera I introduced him to
John who had recently moved there from Marshall Ave. He misunderstood and thought that
John was my husband and asked
my friend why I had left my husband at Altera and did not
live there. The evening before he died he was joking in the hall with my friend
about “Don’t let the bedbugs
bite”…and laughed at the
response before returning to his room for the night.

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your Dad.
I remember the Ray families and their ‘walks’ during the 1950s.
