John William Shade
John William Shade, 65, of Richland, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 31, 2003. He was born on April 1, 1938 to Willis and Vida Shade in Findlay Ohio where he grew up. After graduating from high school he attended Miami University for under graduate and masters studies. John then went on to Penn State for doctoral studies. After an enjoyable teaching tenure at the University of Toledo, he moved to Richland where he has resided for the last 24 years. He worked many of those years as a research scientist for Battelle and Fluor.
John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, son, Jim and his wife, Marian, two grandchildren, Alyson and Zack all of Othello, two sisters, Beverly Tomasello of Alexandria Virginia and Marie Dow of Rolla Missouri.
John enjoyed history, the shooting sports and helping with the Hunters Education Course at the Connell Gun Club. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling to visit family and friends and spending time with his grandchildren.
Memorial services well be held on Wednesday, November 5 at 1:00 at the Richland Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be held in Findlay Ohio.
In lieu flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The American Heart Association.
I had the opportunity to work with John on a number of issues dealing with a radwaste disposal site just before he retired. He was a kind person who valued other people’s opinions and made you feel like you were trusted. He was gentle, but firm, in his efforts to complete work on schedule and in a technically competent manner. His love of teaching came through in his efforts to educate me on some new concepts and the time he was willing to spend doing so. He gave those he worked with a feeling of being valued and the family should know we all lost a dear person and friend.
Nancy,
Stan and I would like to extend to you, Jim and Marian our condolences. Our prayers are with you and your family in the days to come.
Sincererly,
