Janet Marilyn Alderson

11/13/1934 — 11/27/2003

From Richland, WA, US | Born in Abilene, Kansas

Janet Marilyn Alderson

Janet M. Alderson, 69, of Richland, WA went to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 2003. She was at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Abilene, KS to Daniel and Nelle Kirkpatrick. She brought great joy and happiness to everyone who knew her. She was much loved by her many friends and family as evidenced by the 218 cards she received during her incredibly short battle with cancer.

Jan had many fond memories of her early years in Salina, KS. She was elected class secretary and Homecoming Queen at Salina High in 1951. She was on the school news staff and had a radio program of school activities. She attended Kansas Wesleyan University.

Jan married Bill on Dee 19, 1953, while he was stationed at Smoky Hill AFB in Salina. They moved to Oregon after the birth of their first son, where Bill graduated from the University of Oregon. A daughter and second son were born during those years.

In 1977, Jan and Bill co-founded Distinctive Properties, Inc. real estate in Kennewick, where Jan was the office manager for 18 years. After retirement, she enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona but her greatest happiness was being with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Meadow Springs CC and had just won the 9 hole net club championship of which she was very proud. Jan was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Richland.

Jan is survived by her husband Bill, 3 weeks short of 50 years. Also, sons and daughters-in law, John and Beth Alderson, Kennewick, Mike and Karis Alderson, Richland, and daughter and son-in-law, Jude and Steve Carlson, Redmond, and many special friends. Her much loved grandchildren are Daniel, Sierra and Becky, Kennewick, Kaitlyn and Ian, Richland, and Cody and Kimberly, Redmond. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Mike and Pat Kirkpatrick, Campbell, CA, and their families, and her sisters-in-law Donna and Mary Helen Alderson, Portland, OR and various cousins, KS.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm at Christ the King on Wednesday December 3. A reception will be held immediately after the service at the Knights of Columbus off of Van Giesen and the By-Pass Highway. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice or Tri-City Cancer Center Foundation.

''You can't hold back the dawn or stop the tides from flowing - or keep a rose from withering, or still a wind that's blowing. Time cannot be halted in its swift and endless flight, for age is sure to follow youth like day comes after night. For He who sets our span of years and watches from above, replaces youth and beauty with Peace and Truth and Love.'' Helen Steiner Rice

  • Dear Bill, Kids and Grandkids,

    Jan’s spirit and “classy”

act was with her until the end. No surprise to those of us who were so blessed to have known and loved her. You will find that spirit and gumption carrying you through this ordeal, and there when you most need it when remembering your beautiful Wife, Mother and Grandmother.

She loved you all so much!! We are all better human beings because we knew a beautiful, kind lady named Jan. Thank you all for letting us have a little part of her for ourselves…

  • I was so sorry to here of the passing of Jan. I will always remember her as one of the nicest people I have ever met. Whenever I saw her there was always a warm smile and a friendly welcome. Jan was a woman that exuded class and although I haven’t seen here often over the past few years I will miss her smiling face. Bill, and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I know how much you must hurt, but time will heal and the wonderful memories you have of Jan will sustain you. Take care.

  • We remember when we had an office upstairs in the Corderman Building & Distinctive Properties was down the hall. Janet & Bill were always so friendly.

The name of our business was Air-O Design.

We remember Janet as being so pretty and friendly. We never did become really good friends, but Marion would see her at the Mall & at Albertson’s on Gage Blvd. and we would “chat” for a minute or two. I think the last time Marion chatted with her at Albertson’s was less that two weeks ago and she was her usual friendly self.

The World lost a wonderful person when Janet left this planet.

    With prayers,

  • Dear Bill and Family:

We feel truly blessed to have known Jan. The term, “gracious” doesn’t even begin to describe her, but we don’t have a better one. The love and respect she showed her friends was truly remarkable and will be sorely missed. Our sympathies are with you in this very sad time.
