  • When I got the call from Mom that Betty had passed away it was a sad day for me. Betty has always been my second mother. I will always remember the laughter, the food and the conversations growing up in Johnny and Betty’s home. I loved staying overnight at the Manolopoulos home because there was always something going on, whether we were having a pillow fight, dancing to Zorba or making fudge at 10:30 at night. I had to chuckle at one of the other entries about being spoon fed. Betty was always ready to pop something into your mouth, “here try this”. When I was in town, she would make me Greek bean soup or Pisticchio which were my favorites. I will miss my second mom but I will never forget her. My love and thoughts go out to my extended family. • To all the Manos… the Hannigan family and friends send our deepest regards. Momma Mano, “Ya Ya” was and will always be “one of a kind”!!!! It was always a pleasure to be spoiled by her and being spoon fed still into my thirties. She always had a strong opinion and was never afraid to express it. As long as you never interuppted her, never looked at the television while she was talking, and never disagreed with her opinion…. she would be more than happy to have you come again to her home for a little gourmet food. Ha. Ha. I will miss the little reunions we had, but I will never forget them as long as I live. Betty often spoke of her family and the life she had lived. She told me that she was ready to go when the time came and that she hoped it would not be a long and painful event. I’m glad she got her wish and I’m sure she’s getting the food ready for us when we get where she is. God Bless Always, Derk Hannigan.
